    Job Description:

    Reporting to the Manager, Service Delivery and Operations, the Senior Technical Specialist will be responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance on the effective use of AltaLink's VOIP Telephony system. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems and related telephony infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of networking principles, VoIP protocols, and telephony technologies. The VoIP-based Telephony Technologist will be responsible for ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our VoIP systems while keeping abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the field.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design, configure, and deploy VoIP-based telephony systems tailored to meet the organization's requirements.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
    • Ensure seamless integration of VoIP systems with existing network infrastructure, applications, and services.
    • Implement redundancy and failover mechanisms to ensure high availability of VoIP services.
    • Monitor and manage day-to-day VoIP services.
    • Troubleshoot issues related to VoIP technologies, working closely with the Network team.
    • Provide Tier 1+/Tier 2 support for common Cisco VoIP phone and Cisco VTC codec issues.
    • Deploy and provision new VoIP handsets.
    • Monitor VoIP system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
    • Conduct regular maintenance activities such as software updates, patches, and system optimizations.
    • Provide technical support to end-users and IT staff regarding VoIP-related issues.
    • Perform routine backups and disaster recovery planning to safeguard critical telephony services.
    • Implement robust security measures to protect VoIP systems from cyber threats and unauthorized access.
    • Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements related to telephony and data privacy.
    • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for knowledge sharing and future reference.
    • Provide training and technical guidance to IT personnel and end-users on VoIP system usage and best practices.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in VoIP telephony.
    • Evaluate new hardware, software, and technologies for potential integration into the VoIP infrastructure.
    • Propose innovative solutions to enhance the functionality, performance, and security of VoIP systems.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree or diploma in computer science, Information Technology, telecommunications, or related field.
    • Minimum of 7 to 10 years related experience in telecommunications network design and management.
    • Proven ability/experience in the above noted responsibilities.
    • Extensive experience in designing, deploying, and supporting VoIP-based telephony systems.
    • In-depth knowledge of VoIP protocols such as SIP, RTP, and H.323.
    • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting VoIP gateways, PBX systems, and SIP trunks.
    • Strong understanding of networking concepts including TCP/IP, VLANs, QoS, and routing protocols.
    • Experience with VoIP security protocols, encryption methods, and authentication mechanisms.
    • Familiarity with telephony hardware such as IP phones, gateways, and session border controllers (SBCs).
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex telephony issues.
    • Strong communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Certifications such as Cisco CCNA Voice, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent are a plus.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
    • This position may require occasional travel to various locations for system deployments or troubleshooting.
    • Flexible work hours may be necessary to accommodate system maintenance and upgrades outside of regular business hours.
    • Proven track record of good performance and attendance.

    Pay: $115,718.40-$130,068.24 per year
