    The team
    Magnet is seeking a Senior Manager, Planning & Partnership, to assist the Magnet executive team in the execution of partnership and stakeholder initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and potential Canadian and international industry and technology partners and implementing plans for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of such partnerships and sponsorships for Magnet. You will manage proposals, grant applications and other materials as it relates prospects in supporting Magnet's partnership engagement and business development goals with direction from the Director. You will also lead special projects related to the partnership engagement from development to implementation stage.

    The Opportunity

    Magnet is seeking a Senior Manager, Planning & Partnership, to assist the Magnet executive team in the execution of partnership and stakeholder initiatives. In this role, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of current and potential Canadian and international industry and technology partners and implementing plans for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of such partnerships and sponsorships for Magnet. You will manage proposals, grant applications and other materials as it relates prospects in supporting Magnet's partnership engagement and business development goals with direction from the Director. You will also lead special projects related to the partnership engagement from development to implementation stage.

    Some of your core responsibilities will include:

  • Initiating and preparing presentations to external stakeholders as appropriate, to generate awareness and interest about Magnet, TMU and the project's value proposition vis-à-vis the potential client or industry needs. Liaising with the Magnet management team to leverage existing relationships.
  • Preparing partnerships agreements, and supporting letters that meet University policies. Liaising with other university departments where appropriate.
  • Tracking innovation and entrepreneurship trends and identifying potential partners, investors, and business development opportunities, key stakeholders, and forums where Magnet can increase its profile.
  • Managing the Partnerships project team in gathering and synthesizing project/program information in support of report preparation as required by funder guidelines.
    Planning and organizing important campaign cultivation events, including building and leading high level tours and meetings, private dinners, and events with potential investors, donors and/or sponsors.
  • Managing and supervising staff, providing clarity of roles, responsibilities and accountabilities in order to enable the team to manage their areas of responsibility in an effective, efficient and transparent manner.
  • Qualifications

  • Completion of a post-secondary degree is required.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressively responsible fundraising and development management experience.
  • Experience supervising staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement major sponsor gift strategic planning and solicitation strategies.
  • Knowledge of partner motivation and recognition strategies, identification, recruitment, management and training of volunteers.
  • Prospect identification skills, knowledge of research methodology and skills in the evaluation, rating and moves management of prospects.
  • Working knowledge of complex information systems, prospect tracking, research, basic financial planning.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional interpersonal/social interaction skills.
  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills; effective writing skills, especially in the area of proposal writing.
