Patient Service Clerk

The Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Program is one of fourteen in the province of Ontario.

As the Patient Services Clerk you will be is responsible for registration, communication and clerical duties of the unit in accordance with the organizational philosophy, policies and standards of the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre.

The Patient Services Clerk works with an interdisciplinary health care team to complete all clerical duties.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accurately processes all doctors' orders using order entry through Meditech
  • Accurately completes Lab and Imaging requisitions
  • Accurately uses the Electronic Medical Record to collect information relevant to clinic visits
  • Orders and stocks supplies
  • Assists with extra clerical duties as assigned by Team Leader/Resource Nurse
  • Willingly floats and functions throughout the cancer centre
  • Accurately schedules, registers and books patient appointments
  • Electronic/scanning filing of medical records
  • Medical Office Administration Certificate/Diploma or Equivalent Program essential or Evidence of ongoing education in office administration or secretarial courses required
  • Office administration experience in a hospital environment or equivalent


  • Computer literacy

  • Microsoft Office essential II. Keyboarding skills 50wpm essential
  • Current experience with Meditech, including registration, EMR, order entry and appointment scheduling an asset
  • Current experience in the processing of physicians orders an asset
  • Oncology experience highly recommended
  • Experience with booking of appointments required
  • Previous hospital experience an asset
  • Previous MD office experience as asset
  • Experience with OHIP billings an asset
  • Successful completion of Meditech Admissions program an asset
  • Experience with database management and Microsoft Access an asset
  • Meditech Community Wide Scheduling knowledge an asset
  • Knowledge of catchments area, medical services and the cancer care system essential.
