Assistant Professor in Introductory & Computational Physics (Contractually Limited)

Position Description:
The Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University invites applications for a one-year Contractually Limited Appointment (CLA) at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in scientific computing starting August 15, 2024.
Candidates must have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline by the start date of the appointment, and must have a strong track record of innovative, evidence-based teaching of introductory physics at the undergraduate level, particularly with respect to the use of computing in teaching physical sciences. The ability to teach non-introductory undergraduate courses in areas complementary to our existing expertise, such as machine learning, data science or computational physics, and an interest in pedagogy research and innovation in teaching and learning would be assets.
The Department of Physics & Astronomy presently consists of 30 faculty with strengths in astrophysics, biophysics, medical physics, particle physics, quantum condensed matter physics, and soft condensed matter physics. Facilities and institutes related to computing at McMaster include SHARCNET and the MacData Institute, and Digital Research Alliance of Canada resources are extensively used in research. We offer undergraduate degrees in Astrophysics, Medical & Biological Physics, and Physics, with co-op opportunities available, and graduate degrees in Physics and Radiation Sciences.
