Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director of Technology and Facility Maintenance, the Maintenance Worker, performs a preventive and demanding maintenance program to ensure safe and efficient operation of the building systems and equipment.

The main accountabilities of the position are performing maintenance and repair work on resident and facility equipment and mechanical systems and conducting regular inspections/checks and documenting these inspections.

The incumbent in the position fosters and maintains effective relationships with site staff, and community partners including contract services and educational Institutions.

The incumbent also acts as a role model and ambassador for the Mission and Values of the Foundation.


Qualifications

Formal Education:


  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Effective verbal and written communication (English) skills.
  • Building Operators "A" certificate, or 4th or 5th Class Power Engineer's Certificate or equivalent preferred
  • WHIMS certified.
  • Completion of trades related certificate such as electrical, gas fitting, plumbing, air conditioning is preferred
  • Basic plumbing, electrical and carpentry skills with related trades certificates or equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Experience in working with the elderly in a health care environment
  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge/experience in commercial laundry procedures

Experience:


  • Two years experience in a computerized maintenance environment which includes operating and maintaining a variety of maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of computerized building control systems.
  • HVAC, Boiler, chiller and water softener troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience working with the elderly is long term care facility preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills:


  • Mechanical aptitude to perform a variety of minor repairs to building, equipment, furniture and fixtures required.
  • Knowledge of automated building mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of boilers, chillers, fire systems and security systems.
  • Experience with service and repairs to major pieces of equipment including industrial kitchen equipment, boilers, pumps, motors, and domestic appliances.
  • Able to read blueprints.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely.
  • Training involving fire systems, fire plans and specialized pieces of equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to deal effectively with conflict in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Exhibit an open and sincere approach by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally.
  • Accept, implement and evaluate change with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the multidisciplinary site team.

  • Exhibits strong problemsolving, critical thinking and customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize requests from a variety of staff and residents.
  • Flexible and open to change and able to cope with frequent changes in workload, priorities, staff and resident needs and routines.
