Position Purpose:
Responsible for providing general maintenance to all Town roads and Town owned road-side properties including sanding, snow ploughing, grading, patching, ditching, grass cutting, tree/hedge trimming, maintaining culverts, signs, and guide rails, and acting as eyes and ears for the Corporation in potential emergency situations, providing accurate documentation to protect the Corporation from liability.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent academic level
- Supplemental training in order to operate heavy equipment.
- One (1) year previous experience in road maintenance/building;
- Previous experience operating various heavy equipment (i.e. grader, tractor, loader, bulldozer, backhoe, etc.);
- Valid class "DZ" Ontario Driver's Licence;
- CVOR Abstract in good standing required to operate Corporation vehicles;

Position Summary
Responsible for providing general maintenance to all Town roads and Town owned road-side properties including sanding, snow ploughing, grading, patching, ditching, grass cutting, tree/hedge trimming, maintaining culverts, signs, and guide rails, and acting as eyes and ears for the Corporation in potential emergency situations, providing accurate documentation to protect the Corporation from liability.
Responsibilities
- Provides general road maintenance including sanding, ploughing, grading, patching, etc.
- Responsible for keeping accurate log documentation for hours of service in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act.
- Performs road patrols twice daily in winter months in accordance with Ontario Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act, provides detailed documentation of findings, and takes any corrective measures that may be needed.
- Performs Minimum Maintenance Standard road patrols on all Town assumed streets to ensure road safety and compliance of the regulation, in accordance with Regulation 239/0
- Provides detailed descriptions to utility companies for cable locates for Town operations electronically.
- Prepares reports and performs data entry for various inventories electronically.
- Provides locates for storm sewers and street lights accurately, for emergency situations or as needed, and contacts contractor if needed.
- Provides detailed accounts and reports for accidents, incidents, etc. to aid in liability investigations of the Corporation.
- Provides direction and ensures that any contractor working for the Corporation is working within its policies and procedures.
- Carries "On call" phone on a rotating schedule, and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the term.
- Performs safe removal and disposal of noxious weeds such as Giant Hogweed.
- Performs set up and ensures that a traffic protection plan is in place and is appropriate for the area that is needed according to Book
- Operates heavy equipment to complete all necessary duties, such as dump truck, grader, backhoe, road sweeper, tractor, loader, bulldozer, steam machine, etc.
- Maintains, repairs, and/or installs new culverts by establishing grades, compacting gravel, excavating and resurfacing/sodding as required.
- Maintains existing ditches and/or excavates new ditches including installing subdrains when necessary.
- Cuts/trims grass and weeds on roadsides.
- Trims and/or removes brush and trees with the use of chainsaws, loader, etc. and disposes of brush and branches with the chipper truck and plants new trees/bushes as required.
- Cleans, repairs and/or installs catch basins and removes and disposes of any contaminated waste.
- Provides roadside clean up, including the removal of large/heavy objects on Town properties and disposes of road killed animals (excluding cats and dogs) and other garbage as necessary.
