Barista and Café Server


We are looking for a Barista/Café Server to prepare and serve hot and cold beverages, including various types of specialty coffee and tea, as well as a selection of small food items.


Responsibilities include educating guests on our food and beverage menu, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items and taking orders.

To be successful in this role, you should have exceptional guest service skills, knowledge of how brewing equipment operates and the ability to prepare select food menu items.

You should also be able to work various shifts.

Ultimately, you'll ensure an excellent experience for our guests.


Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet guests as they enter.
  • Direct guests to food and beverage menus and answer their questions regarding ingredients.
  • Take orders while paying attention to details (e.g. preferences of coffee blend, dairy and sugar ratios, allergies, etc.)
  • Prepare beverages following recipes.
  • Some assembly of food menu items.
  • Serve beverages and prepared food, like breakfast sandwiches, cookies, pastries and muffins.
  • Receive and process payments (cash and credit cards)
  • Keep the counter and dining area clean and organized.
  • Maintain stock of clean plates and glassware.
  • Monitor inventory levels and restock as needed.
  • Check if brewing equipment operates properly and report any maintenance needs.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations.
  • Communicate guest feedback to managers and recommend new menu items.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties.

Requirements and skills

  • Smart Serve Certificate
  • Food Handlers Certificate
  • Previous work experience as a Barista or waitress
  • Handson experience with brewing equipment
  • Knife safety
  • Use of equipment such as Turbo Chef and espresso machine
  • Knowledge of sanitation regulations
  • Flexibility to work various shifts
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to gauge guests' preferences
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High school diploma; relevant training is a plus
