Betel Home Foundation operates an 80 bed personal care home in Gimli, Manitoba.

We are currently recruiting for a part-time Rehabilitation Aide a permanent days position.


Position Summary:


The Rehabilitation Aide is aware of the rehabilitation needs of all residents and will carry out and reinforce programs designed for residents in cooperation and conjunction with nursing services and/or partner organizations.

The Rehabilitation Assistant performs assigned duties related to the rehabilitative care of residents such as mobility, strengthening exercises, walking programs, basic equipment maintenance, fabrication of assistive devices/adaptive equipment and activities of daily living in conjunction with the Occupational Therapist and Director of Resident Care.

This position is also responsible for the maintenance of a detailed inventory of facility equipment.


Qualifications:


  • Grade XII
  • Geriatric experience an asset.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary, teambased working environment.
  • Due to the high physical demands of the position, the incumbent must be physically and mentally capable to meet these demands.

FUNCTIONS:


  • Interacts with and encourages residents performing functional activities (e.g. positioning, graduated weight bearing, transfers, seating, exercise and walking, etc) as established by the Occupational Therapist and/or Care Team.
  • Reviews the therapist's treatment plan and monitors and documents responses to treatment interventions on the resident's interdisciplinary progress notes as necessary.
  • Develops and maintains therapeutic/restorative walking and exercise programs in conjunction with Occupational Therapist.
  • Maintains a standardized transfer/lift decal system throughout the facility.
  • Ensures that seating systems and all associated accessories are used in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Attend multidisciplinary care conferences and assist in development, implementation and evaluation of resident care plans as deemed necessary / upon request.
  • Calibrates program equipment as instructed and works with the therapist to maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Facilitates a formalized preventative maintenance program internally and with contracted outside agencies.
  • Participate in the delivery of education and inservicing to staff as it relates to various aspects of MSIP training including the safe use of mechanical lifts, transfer and repositioning aides and other resident equipment including prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Effectively communicates with residents, families, staff and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices in all daily activities.
  • Supports an environment which avoids, prevents, and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of health care services.
  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring the adherence Workplace Safety and Health regulations and Policies and Infection Control Guidelines.
  • Obeys all safety and health rules and follows recommended Safe Work Procedures.
  • Informs supervisor of any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses immediately.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information Systems (WHMIS) and adheres to procedures for handling and storing controlled substances as described in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health programs including the region's Fire, Disaster and Evacuation plan.

Salary:
$20.09-$23.29 per hour
