About the Role:


Everest Canada is building a dynamic Energy and Construction team to provide market leading capacity and service across Underwriting, Claims and Risk Engineering.

We are seeking an experienced and technical Underwriting Specialist to join our Energy and Construction Unit in Canada, working as an integral part of our global team alongside our experienced Underwriters and Risk Engineers.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for the industry, as it goes through a period of intense development and technological change.

Everest are looking for an experienced and technically sound individual who will reinforce the team on its journey to be a leader in Energy and Construction.

In this role you will report to the Head of Energy and Construction at Everest Canada in Toronto. This is a hybrid position (3 days in office/2 days remote) based out of our Toronto office.

Role & Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Marketing to producers to secure new and renewal business.
  • Reviewing of submissions, terms and conditions, statement of values, loss history and catastrophic modeling and conducting appropriate research to determine the degree of risk for each account based upon company Guidelines and underwriting authority granted.
  • Coordinating with varied business divisions including Actuarial, Claims, Reinsurance, Accounting, Marketing, Regulatory and others internally that support our businesses.
  • Determining quote or declination of risk. Calculating rates and premium charges using approved rating models.
  • Developing and modifying policy wording in accordance with delegated underwriting authority when the standard forms are not appropriate.
  • Actively cross-sell afforded products and services.
  • Supporting service standards in delivery of Energy and Construction products and services.
  • Working effectively other integral members of your team. Mentoring junior underwriting members of the team.
  • Active participation, leading and involvement in special projects as assigned by senior management.
  • Actively work on innovative solutions for clients/broking partners to differentiate Everest Canada's offering to the industry.
  • Participating, organizing, and leading industry conferences, panels, seminars to promote the Everest Energy and Construction brand in the marketplace.

Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 1015 years of extensive underwriting experience in Energy and Power and Construction Property Experience.
  • Experience underwriting Medium to Large Complex Risks (Operational and Project specific).
  • Indepth underwriting expertise as it relates to solutions for: Large Energy and Power clients with operations in North America; Construction managers, general contractors, and owners to contribute to the underwriting of the full range of Construction accounts.
  • Ability to craft lead market solutions for clients/brokers in the Energy and Construction space.
  • Basic knowledge of Primary Casualty including Energy Casualty, Wrap-Ups and Excess and Umbrella liability will be considered an asset.
  • Independent operator with the ability to be an openminded team player with a willingness to actively listen to comprehend unique circumstances that require practical and unique solutions to complex issues.
  • Robust insured and broker interaction with the ability to effectively target current and prospective contacts to effectively promote offered products.
  • Bachelor's Degree with advanced education and / or professional designations including but not limited to FCIP, CPCU, IIA CRIS preferred (not required). Engineering degree and qualification is a plus.
