Duties and Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, Counselling Services, the incumbent will assess client's psychological and emotional development; plan and implement therapeutic interventions; participate in the ongoing evaluation of counselling service delivery.

The incumbent is responsible to provide quality health care to the Carleton University community in accordance with the policies, goals, and objectives of Health & Counselling Services.

This role will be assigned responsibilities for eating disorder/disordered eating specific work and general counselling duties as needed.


Qualifications:


The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:

  • Previous or current experience providing psychotherapy and crisis intervention to individuals with a broad range of individuals with diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health issues.
  • Experience in clinical case formulation and treatment planning in a mental health setting.
  • Has excellent communication skills and ability to develop a therapeutic relationship with the student.
  • Sensitivity and an unbiased approach is critical.
  • Capable of working independently but also has experience working in a shared care model.
  • Understanding of the developmental stage of this age group and the unique stresses experienced by students in postsecondary education.
  • Excellent time management skills important to stay on time with appointments.
  • Flexible and able to respond to unscheduled urgent situations.
  • Recognizes limitations, knows when to consult and seeks supervision when appropriate.

Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:

  • Completion of a master's degree in a counselling field and/or social work, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current valid registration with Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Worker or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.
  • Five years working as a counsellor and/or psychotherapist of which at least three years are in a university or college setting This experience must include additional training or experience in working with clients with eating disorders.
  • The incumbent must have extensive experience collaborating with community organizations/resources, hospitalbased programs, and other communitybased service providers (e.g. housing, social assistance, crisis services, etc.), especially with reference to populations affected by experiences of disordered eating.
