- Completion of a related diploma or degree recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent with three years' related work experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills including written and verbal fluency in the English language.
- Experience working as part of a team; and developing and sustaining good working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision as well as to establish priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Experience liaising with multiple departments; coordinate the completion of complex collaborative tasks using effective communication strategies and delegation skills.
- Ability to interact professionally with various stakeholder groups and to support faculty and students, as needed.
- Experience demonstrating the proper use of software and equipment; direct experience in an educational setting is an asset.
- Good working knowledge of Solid-State Logic AWS900 Series consoles, Midas M32 console, Macintosh/Windows computers, portable PA systems, analog and digital outboard equipment.
- Strong working knowledge of audio system routing and the ability to troubleshoot issues with connections and hardware.
- Ability to:
- Install, upgrade and troubleshoot music-related Mac software (Pro Tools, Ableton, Logic Pro, etc.).
- Troubleshoot and maintain hardware (including patch bays, consoles, audio-systems, outboard gear, etc.).
- Basic soldering including repairing XLR, TRS, and TS cables. IC soldering skills are an asset.
- Maintain a networked computer lab (including passwords, permissions, software authorizations, etc.).
- Monitor resources and follow administrative procedures to recommend and request required maintenance and upgrades. 11. Good working knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

The Role
The Music Technology Technician provides technical and educational support to the Music Technology Diploma (MTD) program and assist students and faculty when using studio and music lab spaces, equipment and technology.Responsibilities
1. Provides instructional support to the Music Technology Diploma program including:
a. In consultation with program coordinator and MTD and Music faculty, establishes procedures for appropriate set-up and clean-up of Studio spaces and music lab.
b. In consultation with program coordinator and MTD and Music faculty, sets up equipment and materials for Studio sessions, Music lab classes, and other program-related uses, ensuring removal and storage after use.
c. Demonstrate and assist students with proper set-up and take-down techniques for use of equipment and technology in Studio spaces and Music lab.
d. In consultation with program coordinator and MTD and Music faculty, set up and takes down equipment and materials for live sound events.
e. Prepare set-up and take-down instructions to be displayed in Studio and Music lab spaces.
f. Prepare and update instruction sheets to document appropriate operation of specific pieces of equipment.
g. Produce and update the student handbook for all Studio and Music lab spaces (i.e., step-by-step instructions on systems/equipment use, etc.).
h. In consultation with program coordinator and faculty, select and install software as required.
i. Collaborate with program coordinator, faculty and Information Technology Services (ITS) to upgrade software in time for class delivery, ensuring that authorization and copy protection protocols are followed.
j. Ensure adequate inventory of supplies needed for course delivery.
k. In consultation with MTD faculty, invigilate and assess practical exercises (e.g.: setting up studio equipment) and assist with the development and revision of practical exams.
l. Trouble-shoot minor technological issues during class time and file service requests with ITS to ensure effective Studio and Music lab functionality.
m. Assist students and faculty with software issues arising during class time.
n. Manage the "technology hotline" to help support faculty and student use of Studio and Music lab spaces.
o. Produce, update, and maintain an on-going archive of work and events by digitally storing student work and assist faculty in the manufacture, duplication, printing and distribution of student work.
2. Organize operation and maintenance of Studio and Music lab spaces, equipment and technology including: a. Maintain a variety of equipment in Studio and Music lab spaces (Mac computers, mixers, keyboards, PA systems, speakers, amplifiers, built-in consoles, portable console, patch bay, external effects racks, disk producer, etc.).b. Catalogue and maintain up-to-date inventory of portable equipment and spare parts (headphones, microphones, microphone clips, cables, etc.).c. Ensure proper storage and effective culling processes of portable equipment and spare parts.d. In consultation with program coordinator, identify and process equipment purchases, repair orders, shipments, etc.e. Perform minor maintenance and repairs of Music Technology equipment.
3. Perform other duties as assigned.
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need
12. Physically capable of the manual labour required to set up, transport and strike equipment.
13. A valid B.C. Driver's license.
