    The program is tertiary level care meaning that both primary and secondary level of mental health care had been engaged in the community.

    The program provides patient centered care to individuals who have an intellectual disability or difficulty with adaptive functioning (social, conceptual, and practical domain-secondary to adaptive functionality) and a mental health need.

    Patients can have varying degrees of communication and cognitive impairments. Patients may also experience behavioural disturbances that maybe expressed as verbal and or physical aggression and self-injurious behavior.

    The team consists of a full inter-professional team consisting of Nurses, Developmental Support, Behavioural Support, Rehabilitation, Therapeutic Recreation, Occupational Therapy, Psychometry, and Social work.

    The nursing model of care is a hybrid primary care, with patients assigned to one of four POD's with nurses functioning to their full scope of practice providing holistic care.

    The program offers a number of therapeutic programs (Relaxation, Sensory, Circles, Gardening, Cooking and Anger Management). The program has a Snoezelen room and a two-bed Extra Care area (ECA). The ECA is a locked environment providing a higher level of individual care, therapeutic engagement and enhanced monitoring.

    The program is very rewarding as we see patient at their most challenging time at admission and at their best at time of discharge.

    The Clinical Manager, Bayview Program for Dual Diagnosis is currently seeking an Occupational Therapist.

    The purpose of the position is to plan, implement, evaluate and monitor Occupational Therapy (O.T.) services for an assigned caseload of patients as a member of an inter-professional team and to provide training, educational and consultative services to staff, students, community and educational institutions.


    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


    Assessing the level of functional independence and occupational performance issues of patientsCollaborating with patients and their families to determine appropriate treatment goals and objectives, as well as contributing to collaborative treatment plans, utilizing Occupational Therapy best practice initiatives.

    Implementing Occupational Therapy interventions on an individual basis and/or in group settings including modification and/or termination of treatment plans when appropriateDocumenting assessment results, evaluations, patient progress, clinical summaries, etc.

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario in good standingPreference for recent and related experience working as an Occupational TherapistPreference for recent and related experience in mental health and/or community settingPreference for experience with the autism spectrum/dual diagnosis patient populationDemonstrated knowledge of Occupational Therapy theory, best practices, principles and treatment techniques for clients with serious mental illnessProven success with essential competencies of Occupational Therapy practiceADP Authorizer considered an assetProficiency in computer software including Microsoft Office SuiteResults oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent and timely resultsDemonstrated leadership, conflict resolution, interpersonal and organizational skillsProven written and verbal communication skillsProven ability to adapt readily to changeModels and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitudePreference for proficiency in French/English language skillsYou must meet the requirements of our COVID-19 Immunization Policy by providing proof of full vaccination, or a request and receipt of an accommodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code, including a medical exemption.
