Description

The City of Edmonton selected Marigold Infrastructure Partners to design and build the 14-kilometre Valley Line West LRT project from downtown to Lewis Farms.

Construction has begun and will take five to six years to complete.

Marigold is a design-build joint venture agreement between Colas and Parsons.

As we prepare for the coming season, we are adding to our team.


The Construction Quality Assurance and Quality Control Inspector (QAQC) is responsible for managing and performing the daily QA and QC responsibilities of the project to ensure the project is constructed in accordance with the established minimum standards.

The QAQC role includes direct oversight and review of the subcontractor's documentation and Quality Control activities on site. The QAQC to work with other in-house personnel (e.g.

Project Coordinators, Construction Coordinators, Field Review Monitors, etc.) and external personnel (independent testing agencies, third parties, subcontractors, etc.) to produce and document a quality product.

The QAQC reports directly to the Quality Manager


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Review construction performance to ensure the early identification of variances and deficiencies.
  • Ensure early identification and documentation of nonconformities through regular surveillance audits, site walkdowns and other forms of Quality Control Activities.
  • Support external ISO 9001 registration and assessment audit programs
  • Support and assist in all external and internal audits
  • Hold project team accountable for quality control program requirements and the overall Quality Manual.
  • Review, approve and develop Inspection and Testing Plans (ITP) with their associated Check Lists and inspection forms
  • Perform and document regular surveillance audits to ensure adherence to the ITP program
  • Ensure that all personnel working on the project understands the code and specification requirements applicable to their specific scope of work
  • Manage and provide necessary guidance to Quality Inspectors and Quality Field Engineers
  • Review quality records for completeness and correctness.
  • Monitor and evaluate the subcontractors' performance and report to the Quality Manager
  • Verify Project requirements are specified to vendors and contractor documentation submittals
  • Manage the material receiving process to ensure all received materials are in conformance with the approved submittal, stored and handled appropriately.
  • Review and monitor the disposition and status of all issued nonconformance reports.
  • Monitor the progress and effectiveness of the project quality management system. Recommend and implement improvements when required.

Skills and Qualification Requirements:


  • Certified in Alberta (or other jurisdiction if acceptable to the Project) as either a Professional Engineer, or a certified engineering technologist.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct construction inspection experience on major LRT or similar projects.
  • Good knowledge and experience in the implementation of problemsolving methodology and performance of root cause analysis (e.g. Six Sigma)
  • Good knowledge and experience in ISO 9001 Quality Management System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
  • Knowledge of Canadian Building Codes, CSA and ASTM codes
  • Experience interpreting codes and specifications
  • Experience working with the Authority Having Jurisdiction to reach mutually agreeable solutions to technical issues or field issues
  • Thorough knowledge of general construction methods and construction codes
  • Understands how to research and locate manufacturer's product data and installation guidelines
  • Understands the requirements of fire rated construction requirements
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.
  • Detailoriented with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisation skills.
  • Valid driver's license, preferably with clean abstract.
  • Ability to work afternoon shifts during peak season, on a rotational basis.
  • Must be able to negotiate the terrain of an inprocess construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, using an aerial lift, working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather, when required.
