We are committed to addressing and challenging systemic inequities.

This internship position has been created in order to increase entry-level opportunities for those from communities and backgrounds that have been underrepresented in the Canadian publishing industry.

We hope to do our part in reconciling this underrepresentation and welcome those of all genders, sexualities, ethnicities, races, and abilities who are interested in starting a career in publishing to apply.


Key Responsibilities include:

Digital Marketing:

  • Build website landing pages to help promote sales and seasonal promotions
  • Write social media copy for a select number of books and journals, organize relevant assets, and then build out and schedule these social media campaigns and report on campaign metrics
  • Help to produce video content for Instagram and YouTube
  • Write and/or curate a series of blog posts around specific books or journals; contribute a series of blog posts about the internship experience
  • Assist with metadata entry and corrections for a select list of titles

Publicity:

  • Research and assemble robust media contact lists around key titles for upcoming seasons
  • Build lists of influencers and relevant podcasts around key titles for upcoming seasons
  • Assist with organizing book launches and events and attend where possible

Book Reviews and Awards:

  • Read through published book reviews and pull out useful excerpts for promotional purposes
  • Craft entries for book award submissions
  • Work with our distributor to send out books for review and award consideration

Exhibits:

  • Assist in building and designing relevant booklists for display and promotion at conferences, industry events, and exhibits

Sales:

  • Assist in preparing materials for presentations to sales teams
  • Build seasonal and themed digital catalogues in digital sales platforms such as CataList, Bookmanager, Edelweiss, and

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:

  • Interested in learning about the publishing industry
  • Independent and selfsufficient
  • Critical thinker with keen problemsolving skills
  • Able to write creatively, clearly, and compellingly
  • Team player with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an ability to learn new online software and apps
  • Enrolled in/completion of a postsecondary program at the college or university level, or equivalent work experience
