The Integrated Pest Management Policy (C501A) states that "the City commits to ongoing public communication regarding City pest management activities, contributing to public education related to pest management".

The Operations Program Delivery and Partnerships team is looking to hire a student to support the delivery and promotions of education and awareness programs associated with regulated weeds and Integrated Pest Management.

You will succeed in this role if you enjoy working with the public, are a quick learner, have excellent time management, organization and interpersonal skills.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Develop engaging social media contents to raise public awareness of invasive weed species and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices in the City of Edmonton
  • Assist with the creation of content and review of City's invasive weed related webpages and monthly IPM newsletter
  • Respond to citizen inquiries regarding weed identification and weed control
  • Facilitate fun, inclusive volunteer weed pull events and deliver quality educational content and activities to audiences of diverse ages, understanding, backgrounds and capabilities
  • Assist with volunteer management, event coordination, promotions, and program delivery
  • Update Standard Operating Procedures related to Invasive Plant Outreach program activities
  • Perform field surveys to monitor target weed populations as required
  • Perform data analysis, create visualizations, and draft summary reports as required
  • Other related duties as required

Note:
This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.


Qualifications:


  • Currently enrolled in an environmental sciences, biological sciences, agriculture coop or related postsecondary work experience degree program
  • Plant identification skills and some knowledge of Alberta's regulated weeds
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks and duties outdoors in all weather and environmental conditions, including lifting up to 20 lbs (such as loading program material into a vehicle and pulling weeds)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deliver information to a wide range of audiences
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong time management and organization skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Possession of valid Standard First Aid and CPR Level C is a requirement of this position
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).
  • Obtain and maintain a business auto insurance is a requirement of this position
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
