- Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Community Service Worker)
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior job development experience
- Knowledge of community-based resources, education, and training opportunities in Toronto, as well as funding streams; experience networking with government and social service agencies
- Knowledge of the Toronto labour market and industry trends
- Counseling and coaching experience in terms of life skills and motivation
- Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, own vehicle, and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver's abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
- Comfortable working with diverse individuals facing multiple barriers
- Ability to work in a team and to establish rapport with employers, clients, case workers and colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for clients
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Must possess the ability to work flexibly taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client
- Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, Internet, email, and database entry
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
- Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public, both in person and on the telephone
- Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change
- Adaptable, proactive, a self-starter and the ability to work independently
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening as required
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
