Position Summary
The Princess Margaret Genomics Centre is seeking a temporary full-time Research Technician II.

As an integral team member at the Genomics Centre, a UHN core facility, the research technician must be dedicated and result-driven and will be involved in all aspects of service projects, following SOPs and meeting target deadlines.

There will be a special emphasis on techniques for single cell and single nucleus genomics (e.g. 10x Genomics).


Duties
Working under the direction of senior staff, the successful applicant will:

  • Perform experiments and analysis;
  • Communicate and maintain records of experimental data.
  • Onboarding of samples from and communication with clients
  • Entry of sample and library information into LIMS
  • Fresh cell suspension fixation
  • Frozen sample fixation and dissociation
  • FFPE sample dissociation
  • 10x Genomics Flex library production using fixed cell sample inputs
  • Final library QC by BioAnalyzer

Qualifications

  • BSc in genomics, molecular biology or related discipline or higher
  • 3 years related experience is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques is required such as:
  • Experience with PCR reaction set up and purification
  • Live mammalian cell handling, including accurate cell counting and dilution
  • A willingness to learn new techniques and technologies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines
  • Meticulous and detailoriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
  • Experience with single cell technologies is considered an asset.
