JOB TITLE:
1A DELIVERY DRIVER

Reporting to the Lumber & Warehouse Manager, responsibilities for this position include the following:

  • To deliver all Home Centre materials and products to customers as directed.
  • To collect payments for C.O.D. deliveries and to account for such payments daily.
  • To be responsible for the picking up of returned items from customers, and filling out a returned item slip.
  • To maintain a log of deliveries made, time of deliveries and such other information as may be required.
  • To pick up deliveries from suppliers as directed.
  • To ensure the safe transfer of material being delivered including, securely strapping down the load using band clips or protective covering on breakable or sensitive material.
  • To be responsible for the care, appearance, and washing of the truck, and to report to the supervisor any repairs that may be required.
  • To observe all safety precautions in order to minimize hazardous delivery and working conditions.
  • To provide information, assistance and service to customers in a manner which will promote the sale of merchandise and meet the needs, requirements and expectations of the consumer.
  • To assist in the preparation of orders for delivery as required.
  • To assist the unloading and be responsible for the storage of a variety of delivered building materials, including the safe operation of a forklift as assigned.
  • To perform general housekeeping duties in the yard and warehouse areas including: keeping yard, stock piles and warehouse clean and neat, keeping warehouse aisles and yard driveways free of obstruction, observing safety regulations, eliminating hazardous conditions where possible, and replenishing stocks in bins as required.
  • To maintain a good standard of appearance and personal hygiene, to obtain clean uniforms on a regular basis as provided and to wear hard hats while working in yard and warehouse.
  • To maintain a constant alert against the unauthorized removal of merchandise.
  • To perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Applicants must be strongly serviceoriented and motivated, and capable of serving and assisting customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
  • Applicants must be prepared to increase product knowledge and improve selling techniques through special courses, product clinics and training sessions.
  • Applicants must possess sufficient experience and knowledge of Lumber and Building materials to effectively operate in all areas of the department.

Applicants must possess a valid Class 1A endorsement and Class 5 Drivers license and have a safe driving record.

  • Must have the demonstrated ability to fulfill physical job requirements including: lifting and carrying of 5075 lbs of force occasionally, 1020 lbs of force constantly, and the ability to climb ladders.
  • Must be able to work
    mornings, afternoons, and evenings.
