Applications are invited for the temporary part-time position of CICE Learning Facilitator located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus. The starting salary is $28.81/hour for up to 24 hours per week. Additional hours may be required at peak times.

This is a temporary position and is set to commence from September 2023 to December 2023 with a possible extension to April 2024.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting the inclusion of the CICE students in the classroom and College Community
  • Attending CICE core classes to support students in completing the modified curriculum presented by CICE faculty, which includes inclass assignments, handson activities, and group work
  • Working closely with CICE faculty, support staff, CICE manager, and CICE student to accommodate and support existing curricula (outlines, tests, assignments) to meet the student's learning styles/needs in accordance with the student's assessed skill and aptitude
  • Providing CICE classroom support by determining tools and strategies to promote student independence, based on the needs of each individual student
  • Assisting with the use of adaptive equipment when needed.
  • Attending integrated courses with a small group of students to promote smooth integration with other Niagara college students and program area faculty
  • Facilitate weekly integrated class support sessions
  • Utilize integrated class materials/lessons to organize and deliver weekly support sessions to meet the learning outcomes/goals of each individual student.
  • Modifying and supplementing integrated course material to meet the learning outcomes of each individual student
  • Determining techniques and tools to utilize for individual/group support sessions based on the best fit for each individual student
  • Consulting with integrated course professors to support student success in their class (behaviour strategies, academic capabilities, and general CICE program information)
  • Assisting students to access appropriate college resources (Financial Aid, Health, Wellness and Accessibility Services, Academic Counseling)
  • Monitoring and escalating inappropriate student behaviours to CICE Manager
  • Preparing written summaries of student's achieved outcomes and progress based on results (copy to student file)
  • Tracking/filing and recording program documents and other pertinent program information for future reference by staff
  • Meeting with staff and faculty periodically to review protocol and discuss new or revised approaches
  • Providing a smooth transition into college/academic life

Qualifications:


  • Two (2) year diploma in Educational Assistance and Adult Supports, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker or studies in Behavioural Science, Autism, Disability Studies or related field of study
  • Minimum two (2) years experience working with adults with intellectual disabilities, and/or persons with significant learning challenges
  • Understanding of curriculum design and modification
  • Strong desire to help students succeed
  • Comfortable working with students individually as well as speaking in front of groups
