About Abhinav Sunil:

I am a licensed architect turned UX designer. A designer with a decade of experience in architecture and urban design, bringing a unique perspective to the field of research, making the invisible visible with a focus on sustainability, user experience, and design assets.

Experience

I am a designer with over ten years of experience in architecture and urban design, and I bring a unique perspective to the field of research. My focus is on sustainability, user experience, and design assets. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington, which I expect to complete by June 2024.

In my current role as a Freelance UX Researcher at Inji in Vancouver, Canada, I expedite the product startup design process by 20% through user research, IA, interaction, visual design, and prototyping. This approach helps me to address customer and business needs effectively. I also execute research and redesigns for clients, focusing on brand identity and visual design, which has resulted in a 15% increase in customer engagement. I collaborate with the brand content marketing team to generate concepts and produce assets, resulting in a 10% increase in website traffic.

My academic background includes a Master of Architecture from the University of Calgary, where I studied generative design, sustainable design, and 3D modeling. I have a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Mumbai, where I studied critical thinking and spatial analysis.

Throughout my career, I have worked at multiple firms, including IBI GROUP in Vancouver, Canada, where I served as a Designer - Architect. I am proficient in 3D modeling tools, prototyping, and design visualization. My strong communication, project management, and collaboration skills have been invaluable in leading stakeholder meetings, conducting research, and ensuring economic feasibility for multi-million dollar projects.

I have coursework and experience in user-centered design, interaction design, user research, and usability testing. I am proficient in tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Revit, Principle, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Lumion 3d, V-ray, 3ds MAX, p5js, HTML, and Tableau. My research skills include heuristic evaluation, task analysis, information architecture, user flows, journey mapping, tree testing, affinity mapping, benchmarking, card sorting, contextual inquiry, ethnography, observation, user interviews, and usability testing.

My relevant projects include developing the Menoglyphic Calendar, a secure and user-friendly analog period tracker. I conducted user research and testing, resulting in a 90% satisfaction rate, and implemented data encryption and encoding for enhanced security, resulting in a 15% increase in user retention and 20% increase in user engagement. Additionally, I collaborated on a design project exploring remembrance, place, and lived experience, and developed a mobile app prototype promoting interaction with local history.

My project skills include leadership, business strategy, communication, stakeholder management, creativity, critical thinking, digital marketing, and people management. I am excited to continue pursuing my passion for design and research, and I am always eager to collaborate on new projects and bring my unique perspective to the table.

Education

I have a Master of Science in Human Centered Design and Engineering from the University of Washington, which I expect to complete by June 2024. My coursework focuses on user-centered design, interaction design, user research, and usability testing. I am excited to be learning about the latest techniques and tools for creating products and services that are effective and enjoyable for users.

I also have a Master of Architecture from the University of Calgary, where I studied generative design, sustainable design, and 3D modeling. This has given me a deep understanding of the built environment and how to create sustainable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing structures.

My academic journey began with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Mumbai, where I learned critical thinking and spatial analysis. This program provided me with a strong foundation in the principles of design and architecture, which I have built upon throughout my career.

I am passionate about continuing my education and staying up-to-date with the latest developments in my field. The combination of my academic background and my practical experience has given me a unique perspective on design and research, and I am eager to continue learning and exploring new ideas.
