Arooj Ilyas

Hi 👋🏼 I'm Arooj, a passionate woman in STEM with a background in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. After working alongside several impressive Software Developers at a start-up tech firm, I was both amazed and in awe of their problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Given my background in Engineering, where I learnt to approach complex problems in a systematic, step-by-step manner, and my passion for teamwork and creativity, I decided to take the leap, enroll in a full-stack development bootcamp and pursue a career in software development.

As technology continues to reshape our world, I'm eager to contribute to this transformative change. I'm excited to continue my path as a Woman in STEM, trading in my Engineering boots for shiny new Developer shoes.

I am now on the hunt for my first role in Tech in Toronto as a Software Engineer 😃

• Worked alongside the marketing and sales teams for a B2B SaaS computer software company
  • Start-up culture taught importance of navigating through uncertainty, pivoting approach with changing priorities and being a quick-learner in a constantly changing environment.
• Customer facing; responsible for outreaching 50+ potential clients per month in a CRM to develop relationship-building acumen, adjusting outreach according to current customer and market trends.
• Gained experience working in an agile development environment, developing an Intent Data tool.
• Worked collaboratively using qualitative research methods to find patterns in marketing methodologies that would maximise engagement via cold and warm outreach.
• Directly worked under the COO and Marketing Manager to set up meetings to boost revenue and client retention; averaged 6-10 intro meetings booked weekly for potential on-boarding. 
• Built LinkedIn presence to 1000+ connections; conversations converting to meetings booked with CMO’s and relevant Senior Managers of large and mid-scale Software Technology firms to benefit from our tools.
• Managed ‘New Outreach Project’ created personalised LinkedIn and email templates to reach prospects, each adjusted depending on what they could benefit from using Crozdesk

• Recently graduated from an intensive 16-week bootcamp at the School of Code as a Full-Stack Software Developer. 
• Learnt a variety of skills to add to my tech-stack belt including HTML, JavaScript, Node.js, Express, REST API's, CSS, React, React Native, PostgreSQL and more! 
• Gained exposure to developing, testing, and documenting full-stack applications from ideation through to deployment. 
• Utilised scrum, sprint planning and other AGILE methodologies whilst working in teams
• Good understanding of interpreting applications, features, and component design and have shown the ability to develop them in accordance with user stories and project specifications and varying turnover time ranging from one day hackathons to one week and four week projects. 
• Proficient in planning, documenting, wireframes, clean and D-R-Y coding, debugging, testing, and communicating product/component/feature development stages.
