Harry Staines

Hello, my names Harry. I’m 22, I’ve recently moved here to Calgary on an iec work visa for two years. 

I started working for Tennis 2000 immediately after finishing high school working initially as a site labourer, which involved cleaning, renovating and building residential tennis courts. Working with high-net worth individuals at luxury properties meant I had to be presentable and respectful of surroundings at all times. My work area had to be safe and tidy at the end of each day and deliveries and noise disturbances had to be kept to a minimum which involved planning the day and often liaising with onsite security teams for deliveries. Time management on-site played a key part to delivering a successful, profitable project, within the agreed timescale with the client. 

I enjoyed learning groundworks and landscaping to high standards.

After a year of working on site, I progressed within Tennis 2000 and transitioned into an office based role where I was responsible for the upkeep of the warehouse, vehicles, plant and machinery. In addition to this I booked in all maintenance visits with the company’s existing customer base, which was managed on an excel document and the company’s CRM. 

2019-Present DS Engineering

I decided to further my career and move to DS Engineering. I have been more involved in the office, utilising my previous experience. Assisting the Office Manager with day-to-day tasks, such as invoicing customers, purchasing materials, communicating with customers both verbally and written. Since then, I have progressed to being the  Assistant workshop and office manager. Due to my predecessor being semi retired, I chose to step up to fill his shoes. My role entailed the previous mentioned above aswell as undertaking more responsibilities. These include, structuring the work force to ensure we are maximising growth and potential. Quoting jobs for customers, for this I would have to liaise with our Cad department to create a drawing (if one wasn’t already provided) then check we have the materials in stock, if not order them. Estimate how long it would take us to complete said task, and chose which employee would be the most suited for the job. As people work at different speeds and have different competence levels. Building a rapport with them has given me a clear understanding to whom is most suited for what job.
