I am Human Rights Advocate and certified in First Aid and CPR, Toronto Shelter Standards, Harm Reduction, and Case management, and a graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in ARTS-Development Studies (Social Worker) from Kyambogo University. Community Skills and Development Drop-in Coordinator 

  • Provide support to Settlement Counsellors, ensuring a seamless client intake process in responding to clients' multifaceted needs.
  • Obtain and verifies immigration status documents from clients, interview and complete Client Intake Forms
  • Determine eligibility for services based on client immigration status and direct clients to appropriate services within the agency, including settlement counseling, important documents, and forms, translation and interpretation services, and English language training.
  • Provide clients with information about funder requirements for data collection, and privacy requirements and obtains appropriate permission from clients.
  • Distribute, collects, and analyze client evaluation forms following receipt of individual consultations

Community Support Worker (Part-time)

  • Identify, intervene, and effectively deal with crisis and conflict situations and deal with emergency situations as they arise.
  •  Provide front-line support to the Hostel Support staff on-site. 
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of accurate and confidential user service records in accordance with SMIS privacy guidelines, City of Toronto Shelter Standards, and the client’s policies and procedures. 
  • Directly responsible for the day-to-day care of the residents. 
  • Provide a safe and trustworthy environment and encourage residents’ input. 
  • Complete intakes/discharges. 
  • Establish empathetic rapport with residents. 
  • Implement the shelter policies and procedures and residency agreements in a spirit of fairness and respect. 
  • Support residents’ efforts to attain their goals through advocacy, research, and appropriate referrals.
  • Work as a resource for residents, particularly around housing issues, support, and advocacy. 
  • Participate in ongoing team building, ensuring peer accountability, strong communications, and support.

Volunteer                                                                               

Toronto People with AIDS Foundation (PWA) and Yonge Street Mission (YSM)

  • Responding to overdoses and members' de-escalation, ensuring the safety and well-being of members and staff by doing regular facility and room checks
  • I have supported food distribution to community members.
  • I Observe and monitor the member's physical and psycho-social status 
  • Communicate and demonstrate appropriate professional boundaries with members
  • Ensure that special dietary requirements for clients are met in the food market (Food Bank) 
  • I have scrutinized donation supplies to community members.
  • Provide assistance when medical emergencies and other critical incidents occurred within the institution using problem-solving and crisis intervention to de-escalate conflicts
  • Maintain proper documentation and case management notes 
  • I participate in meetings, case conferences, and organization initiatives, as well as the development of members' case plans and program development and delivery 
  • I have appropriately assessed situations and solved problems, and de-escalate interpersonal conflicts in an effective fashion through crisis intervention techniques
  • I have shown excellent customer service skills with an ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with members, service providers, community agencies, the general public, and/or staff to address service inquiries, requests, and/or complaints.

 

 

Education

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in ARTS-Development Studies (Social Worker) from Kyambogo University, certificates: - Toronto Shelter Standards and Harm Reduction from the Toronto Hostels Training Centre, Emergency First Aid & CPR/AED from Canadian Red, Take Home Naloxone from St. Paul’s Foundation Canada, Shelter Management Information System (SMIS) from the city of Toronto, and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities.

Also, a certificate in computer skills including Microsoft word, excel, access, PowerPoint, tally, and the internet.
