Human Resources Business Partner, 

Miller Waste Systems Inc – 2021 August – Present

Serving as the Human Resources Business Partner for Eastern Ontario

 

  • Responsible for all Human Resources functions for Miller Waste Systems Employees in the Eastern Ontario Region.
  • Participating in key strategic and operational discussions and decisions on human resources issues, priorities, systems, processes, and other performance indicators.
  • Handling professionally and with discretion various complex and difficult labour and employee relations issues, including highly sensitive employer investigations, complex labour issues, and multifaceted employee relations situations. Liaising with private investigators, police and MTO officials on an as required basis.
  • Liaising with employees, supervisors, physicians, long-term disability insurance provider and WSIB representatives in order to administer and monitor the early and Safe Return to Work procedure for employees on long-term disability, sick leave and/or WSIB.

 

  • Leading and managing the internal and external talent acquisition strategy; job descriptions and postings, applicant screening, tracking, and recording internal applications in appropriate systems (Ceridian), verifying senior applicant qualifications, preparing letters of offer, and onboarding of employees.
  • Facilitating and record minutes of various Committee meetings, including the Employee Committee (EC) and the Joint Health and Safety Committee.

 

Labour Relations Analyst, 

Ottawa-Carleton School Board – 2019 June – 2021 July

Serving as the Labour Relations Analyst for Nine (9) Bargaining Units 

for the Ottawa-Carleton School Board 

 

  • Participated on the bargaining team for nine (9) collective agreements across ETFO and OSSTF bargaining units. 
  • Developed and drafted Management Proposals for Collective Bargaining across the various bargaining units. 
  • Obtained, researched, and assembled information and statistics: such as salaries, working conditions and benefits; for negotiations through contact with other Boards, Labour Canada, OPSBA, Ministry of Education, and Board staff.
  • Supported Management personnel at all stages of the grievance procedure and arbitration process, including but not limited to, drafting grievance responses, liaising with legal counsel and supporting management through the arbitration process.
  • Participated in various HR/LR initiatives: such as development of, or amendments to policies and procedures; process improvements including but not limited to orientation work group; respectful workplace and pay equity.
  • Developed and maintained LR/HR metrics using Microsoft Excel and HRIS Programs.
  • Assigned and reviewed the work of the Labour Relations Assistant.

Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo - 2013 July – 2019 June

  • Acting Manager/Supervisor for Human Resources Advisors in the absence of the Human Resources Manager/Supervisor. 
  • Managed employee relations for several client areas within the Municipality including Regional Emergency Services, Bylaw and RCMP Support Services, Environmental Services, Community Services, Planning & Development, Aboriginal & Rural Relations, Finance, Assessment & Taxation, and Land Administration.

  • Advised and supported managers through workplace accommodations, including reviewing restrictions, drafting accommodation agreements, liaising with legal counsel as required.

  • Worked directly with the Director of Human Resources and the Company Labour Lawyer to effectively deal with sensitive employee issues, grievances, and terminations.
  • Participated in preparation and the successful negotiation of a concessionary bargaining session to meet organizational goals and objectives for the newest collective agreement. 
  • Served as the company Controlled Goods Registration Program Officer.
  • Responsible for preparing postings, interview questions and screening candidates for positions at all levels in the facility. Successfully recruited for three hundred (300) positions across the organization. 
  • Successfully developed and administered several programs including an Attendance Management program that reduced absenteeism in the organization.
  • Experience dealing with culpable and non-culpable attendance management including: the development of policies and procedures, and the use of last chance agreements.
  • Administration of Human Resources benefits (Manulife) and payroll (PRISM) for all employees within the facility, including STD, LTD, and WSIB processes.
  • Administration of the Defined Benefits Pension Program for estimates, terminations, retirements. 
  • Experience working directly with pension actuaries to develop plan overviews/funding levels for senior management.
  • Implemented revised summer student placement program with outreach and recruitment of students from several Ontario Universities.
