Experience
My philosophy focuses on the individual child and believing they are competent, capable, confident learners, and communicators if we allow them to be. Believing in students’ abilities to learn while incorporating community, and family, and ensuring the student's well-being is important. I believe that all are necessary for student success and have applied some of these teachings in my practice while working with children with challenges and exceptionalities. Further, my lesson plans included differentiated learning and practice where I could assess my students’ needs and further their interests while valuing their strengths. I believe by building strong relationships with families through community engagement, involvement, and lived experiences, students can further inquire about their surrounding world and how they can be contributing global citizens. I also believe it is important to encourage sharing, allowing all voices to be heard in an inclusive, safe environment. I believe and hope that as a lifelong learner, I will be able to contribute to the lives of the students I teach so that they in turn can give back to society
Education
Through my extensive experience working in the Peel District School board at Sawmill Valley Public School as an LTO working with families and children, I have learned the importance of the child’s own identity and uniqueness. I believe by building strong relationships with families through community engagement, involvement, and lived experiences, students can further inquire about their surrounding world and how they can contribute to the community. Further, I believe it is important to encourage sharing, allowing all voices to be heard in an inclusive and safe environment. While working at Sawmill Valley Public School, I developed positive relationships with families and children that display challenges or require additional support. I believe as an educator working with children with exceptionalities and challenges, I can support their learning through an individually centered approach such as building independence and building successful strategies for social-emotional development. I look forward to discussing the opportunity to join the occasional teacher position for Peel District School Board. I passionately advocate that academics combined with extensive experience would be an asset for this position.
