    Description

    Our client is a professional building services and engineering firm providing mechanical and electrical design for an ever-expanding group of customers throughout Canada. The company has a wide variety of clients including architects, building owners, property managers, government agencies and contractors with project size varying from $50K to $50M in construction value leading to a fast paced and dynamic office. We are now looking for a Mechanical/Electrical Project Manager to join their busy, growing, and successful team.

    To be successful in this role:
    You will be a confident Project Manager with 8+ years of experience in building design or construction industry and a solid knowledge of mechanical & electrical systems that will be utilized in the day-to-day management of projects. This should include chillers, boilers, air handling units, digital control systems, sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, power distribution equipment, lighting systems, etc.

    Other requirements for this role include:
    University degree or College diploma in a related field such as Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Architectural Technology, or equivalent
    Experience in project management in the design or construction fields
    Experience with construction contract law and standard contract documents including but not limited to CCDC contracts, change orders, payment certificates, certificate of substantial completion, etc
    Experience with pricing projects and managing fees for additional services
    Excellent communication skills and experience working directly with clients
    Ability to win new work through relationship building with clients
    Ability to multi-task and be organized, especially under the stress of multiple project deadlines
    A results orientated problem solver that enjoys the challenge of finding the right solution for each project

    Position summary:
    We are looking for an individual who understands all aspects of the project design and construction process to lead the in-house project teams along with being the liaison with the client, other consultants, and the construction team. The right person for this job has excellent communication skills, is great at keeping details organized and excels at bringing teams together.

    Job role and responsibilities:
    As a Mechanical or Electrical Project Manager you will oversee a variety of projects from tenant fit-ups to high rise residential buildings, providing exceptional design and Project Management skills.

    Other responsibilities for this role include:

    Prepare proposals for new projects identifying the scope, schedule and budget with the client and negotiating the associated fees to meet the clients' needs
    Work with the department managers to assemble a project team to deliver the project to the client on time, within budget and meeting the client's expectations
    Monitor the progress of the project through regular communication with the team and review of the hours/dollars spent on the project
    Keep the client and Principal-In-Charge updated on the project progress through regular updates
    Attend client meetings or delegate to appropriate design staff. Document discussions and report back to the team
    Review drawings issued to the client to ensure the design meets client expectations. Ensure quality control measures are being followed
    Identify extra scope with the team and the client and negotiate additional fees where applicable
    Manage sub-consultants as the project may dictate ensuring information is shared across offices, work is completed to company standards, and fees are in alignment with the proposal
    Coordinate contract administration activities with the design team and/or field technician for field reviews and all contract documentation
    Work with the accounting team to prepare monthly invoicing and aid in project collections.
    Establish effective relationships with all parties involved in the project with a focus on exceptional customer service and overall team work
    Design mechanical or electrical projects of various complexities and sizes
    Direct junior staff on design strategies/concepts
    Prepare project documentation including drawings and specifications
    Conduct field reviews and oversee construction administration (shop drawings, RFIs, CCNs, monthly draws, etc)

    2. In addition to their vacation, our client closes our offices between Christmas and New Years with all staff receiving full pay during the closure. This 'free week off' is above and beyond everyone's regular vacation accrual and you do not have to make up these hours in any way through the year.
    3. All our clients staff receive profit sharing annually. Every year approximately 10% of company profits are distributed equally to all staff based on their hours worked for the year.
    4. Additional to profit sharing, our clients staff are eligible to receive a performance bonus annually. Every year approximately 20% of company profits are distributed to staff based on their performance and contributions to the company that year. We have a formal structure to deliver performance evaluations through and are upfront with staff on their performance ratings and how to improve.
    5. Our client also has an RRSP matching program that currently matches an employee's contribution to their RRSP program, up to 1.5% of their annual, base income. See attached policy.
    6. We have a benefits plan.

    8. We offer flexible working hours and allow staff to manage their calendars and personal commitments through the week. We have the option for the candidate to work hybrid, 50/50 time remote/in-office respectively, if they meet the criteria of our policy.
    9. We also offer a summer hours program that allow staff be off work more than half of the Fridays through the summer

In Kingston, just in the last few years, we've been ax throwing, lawn bowling, visited a number breweries, done 2 escape rooms, held a 3 day office Olympics event, had countless potlucks, held a pumpkin carving contest, and the company has paid for a number of lunches, ice cream outings, and Friday afternoon beer socials just for the fun of it. Not to mention our summer BBQ that we bring our families to and our formal Christmas dinner that we bring our significant others to.
    11. Our client is internally owned with on-going ownership transition opportunities. Ownership is not limited to a select few and there are no special requirements beyond typical leadership, maturity, level-headed and business-sense characteristics.
