    Description

    Reporting to the Manager, Nelson and District Youth Centre and the Nelson Youth Network Oversight Committee the Youth Network Coordinator is responsible for the development, facilitation and oversight of a youth network within the Nelson and area. The Coordinator shall engage local youth in the development of priorities relating to the interests and needs of local youth between the ages of 12 and 18 years.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Engages youth in the development of a youth network;

    2. Develops and facilitates youth action teams in the furtherance of youth identified initiatives;

    3. Follows best practices for engaging youth and hosting of youth related activities;

    4. Support, coordinate and promote youth directed programming and space;

    5. Ensure community priorities are identified and supported;

    6. Maintain records and reports on all network activities;

    7. Develop community relationships between youth and local businesses and organizations;

    8. Develop and operate within a specified budget;

    9. Evaluate project outcomes, successes, impacts and short comings;

    10. Liaise with the Basin Youth Network Regional Coordinator, funding organizations and community partners;

    11. Identify and apply for project grants and other supplemental funding;

    12. Encourage and develop community partnerships and volunteers;

    13. Develop participation opportunities for youth in local events and activities;

    14. Participates in activities and events hosted through the youth network;

    15. Works a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends;

    16. Develops and presents reports on youth network initiatives;

    17. Performs other duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE


    • Grade 12 Graduation or GED

    • Post-Secondary education in a related field such as Social Sciences, or equivalent certification, relevant to working with youth and programming for youth

    • Minimum two years of related experience managing programs and volunteers

    • Ability to work with and inspire youth

    • Ability to administer youth programs

    • Effective verbal, presentation, listening and written communication skills

    • Computer skills including using Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint as well as social media

    • Knowledge of bookkeeping, record keeping, financial reporting and budget management

    • Ability to engage youth in community programs

    • Exemplary interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

    • Demonstrated administrative, organization and problem-solving skills.

    • Demonstrated leadership skills.

    • Must have an awareness and understanding of the issues facing youth
