About the role
We are looking for a
Property - Special Handling Unit (SHU) Claims Representative to join our team
As a
Property SHU Claims Representative for our Investigative Services team in Ontario, you will play a fundamental role in coordinating investigations and making fair and equitable decisions for Property claims handled within the Special Handling Unit (SHU).
What you'll do here:
- Investigate potential fraud, misrepresentation, and/or exaggeration within Complex Property claims (commercial, personal, specialty)
- Examine evidence, including statements, examinations under oath (EUO), claims documents, witness testimony, expert reports, and all other information required to clarify and/or justify a claim
- Coordinate resources (independent adjusters, legal, engineers, etc) to lead analysis and assessment of coverages under the policy
- Analyze property damage and restoration estimates and monitor repair progress, to ensure compliance with Intact standards
- Participate in management of large losses and expense reserves
- Communicate in a timely and respectful manner with customers and third parties when making decisions on coverage, reporting findings, handling disputes, and settling claims
- Collaborate and/or lead project work, by working with members of the Investigative Services, Claims and Underwriting departments to deliver on project goals
- Negotiate settlements fairly and equitably
- Deliver highquality reporting and documentation of claims, in consultation with Technical Specialists
What you bring to the table:
- A minimum of 3+ years claims adjusting experience in Property
- Ability to handle and oversee complex claims
- Thorough knowledge of policy wordings and endorsements governing property insurance
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and decisionmaking skills
- Strong time management and prioritization skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A friendly and cando attitude
- Post secondary education is an asset
- Completed, or are working toward, Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset
These skills are considered a strong asset:
- High initiative and ability to exercise independent thinking
- Ability to be problemsolve and innovate investigation strategy
- Additional claims experience (property, auto, specialty lines)
- Additional investigation experience in the insurance and/or financial industry
- Bilingualism in English and French and/or any other language
