Role Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Research, this position is responsible for providing strategic advice and support to the branch/sector by developing strategies, response plans, and key messages to ensure consistency and appropriateness of internal and external messages that comply with ministry guidelines and processes.

The position applies an in-depth understanding of branch/sector issues; develops and disseminates information on behalf of the branch/sector; and compiles branch/sector responses to Minister and senior official requests for information.


  • Researches and develops varied and complex materials for stakeholder consultation efforts associated with major branch/sector initiatives, such as discussion guides, public consultation tools, stakeholder summaries and findings.
  • Research, compiles, and develops information related to branch/sector initiatives and projects and providing associated strategic information and advice for major projects and initiatives (e.g., Low Incidence Support Services, Mental Health, Program Unit Funding, inclusion policies and direction to support school authorities).
  • Prepares written documents and presentation materials in collaboration with senior branch/sector representatives.
  • Participates in ministry and crossministry committees and working groups to represent and assist branch/sector requirements and perspectives as appropriate.
  • Consults and advises senior branch/sector representatives to positioning of information content, and style.
  • Prepares strategic and complex branch/sector documents (e.g., correspondence, briefing notes, Q and As/FAQs, complex and sensitive action request responses, communication to internal and external stakeholders).
  • Provides consultation and guidance o branch/sector representatives on written communications and materials, including assessment of needs and development of key messages and standard responses to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of branch/sector processes.
  • Responds on behalf of the branch/sector to emergent communication requests (e.g., media inquiries, inquiries from internal/external stakeholders involved in branch/sector projects/initiatives), in a timely and diplomatically sensitive manner.
  • Collaborates with branch/sector leadership to develop comprehensive strategies and responses to address branch/sector issues in a manner consistent with the ministry business plan, legislation, initiatives, policies and guideline.
  • Summarizes and prepares information relating to identified issues to ensure appropriate background materials, input, and briefings are available to inform strategic decisions, priorities and provide associated advice and recommendations to branch/sector leadership and ministry representatives as appropriate.
  • Develops recommendations and managing projects to support continuous improvement of branch/sector operations and associated strategic issues management, including developing and adopting enhanced processes, tools and best practices.

Qualifications:


A University graduation in a related field (Political Science, Policy Analysis etc.) plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience.

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one-for-one basis.
