This role primarily focuses on liaison and negotiation services for ATCO Electric Ltd. and its affiliate companies. It is key to our operations, securing the necessary land rights for our distribution and transmission projects.

This vital responsibility includes forging agreements on land rights with a diverse range of stakeholders, including private landowners, occupant/lessees, corporate entities, and government agencies like Metis Settlements, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, Special Areas, Municipal Affairs, and Alberta Infrastructure.

Furthermore, this role ensures clear and consistent communication with all parties involved, particularly concerning activities on ATCO Electric's transmission and distribution rights of way, from pre-construction and construction to reclamation and maintenance stages.

What You Get to Do:


  • Build effective relationships with landowners and occupants, keeping them informed about any potential activities on or near their land.
  • Negotiate and liaise with a broad range of stakeholders to secure land rights for electrical distribution and transmission facilities.
  • Lead consultations for the routing and site selection of transmission and distribution facilities.
  • Execute property acquisitions for essential sites including substations, radio towers, storage facilities, and offices.
  • Solve discrepancies with landowners and occupants with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Assess and settle damage claims, ensuring fair resolutions for all parties.
  • Oversee the work of contract Land Agents, providing guidance as needed.
  • Conduct meticulous research into current crop prices and land values by reviewing legislation and regulations from pertinent bodies such as the Alberta Utilities Commission and the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.
  • Serve as a reliable point of contact for landowners, ensuring effective communication and delivery of commitments.
  • Collaborate with the Project Team and Project Contractor to develop strategies that minimize negative impacts from construction and reclamation activities on affected parties.
  • Document all landowner interactions, commitments, and conversations, reporting them in a timely manner.
  • Supervise project activities to ensure stakeholder commitments and conditions are met.
  • Effectively communicate landowner concerns within the project team through an established communication plan.
  • Finalize all documentation upon project completion.
  • Hold a grade 12 diploma along with a 2year Land Agent diploma or Land Agent certificate from a recognized college or institute of technology.
  • Possess a valid Land Agent license and Commissioner for Oaths status.
  • Have related postsecondary education in a landrelated field (considered an asset).
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of continuous field experience in surface land acquisition.
