Summer Camp Coordinator


Full/Part Time:

This position works full-time for 2 months of the year (July and August) plus part-time leading up to the summer months (as early as May) for preparation, as well as part-time after camps are finished to complete administrative and inventory tasks.


Regular/Temporary:
May - September


Hours: 40 hours a week


Wage:
Ranges between $23 per hour - $28 per hour dependent on certification and experience.


Who We Are:


Parkgate Society's Child & Family Centre and Seymour School Age Care have been chosen by the Province of BC to become $10 a Day ChildCareBC prototype sites.

Thanks to this new designation, plus our existing reputation for quality child care, community demand for our services has greatly increased.

We strive to exceed licensing regulations by having a better than required child/staff ratio and we stay up to date with the newest standards and best practices of early learning.

Our child care centres are equipped with high quality play equipment, including natural play and art materials.


Position & Key Responsibilities:

This position plans and directs the program of an inclusive Camp Program supervises part-time and full-time staff (approx. eight Camp Leaders and three Camp Supervisors), and reports to the Child Care Manager.

The coordinator is accountable for the care of the children, supervision of staff, and has responsibility for daily operations of the camp, including, but not limited to:


  • Staff hiring, scheduling, training, and development.
  • Maintaining positive and professional relationships with employees, families, external consultants (e.g., Supported Child Development), and other staff in the organization (e,g, fleet manager for bus bookings).
  • Coordinating, monitoring, and rolemodeling the provision of a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate Camp program to meet the needs of schoolaged children in a group setting within a safe and healthy environment.
  • Planning and implementing activities and experiences for the individual and group needs of all children within a consistent childcentered program environment.
  • Following policies and procedures of Parkgate Society, NVRC, and the child care department.
  • Maintaining and completing administrative tasks in an accurate manner and within prescribed timelines, including staff scheduling, incident reports, files, inventory, and supply ordering.
  • Following licensing regulations and Parkgate Society's policy/procedures. (This position will be directly responsible for ensuring that CCFL licensing standards are always met.)
  • Managing the program budget and assisting with registration.

Qualifications:


  • Responsible Adult certificate/training; preference is given to those with a higher level of training in child development or related field
  • High Five Training
  • Minimum five years experience in a similar or related environment, including at least one year of supervisory experience
  • Minimum three years experience supporting children with specific inclusion needs
  • A current, approved first aid certificate (minimum 8hour course)
  • Strong abilities and experience in team leadership and staff supervision
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Excellent communication, writing, planning, computer skills, and problemsolving abilities
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Proof of COVID19 Vaccination and a clear criminal record check are required
  • Class 4 driver's license or willingness to obtain one is an asset
