  • The Edmonton West Primary Care Network Central Office, located inside of Meadowlark Health and Shopping Centre


  • Terwillegar Recreation Centre

Objective:
Being an Exercise Specialist allows you to partner with your patients to develop and supervise comprehensive exercise care plans.


You will achieve this through:

  • Collaborating with family physicians and other healthcare providers
  • Using your knowledge of physical education to support patients in developing their exercise capacity in order to improve their overall health and/or help manage chronic disease
  • Performing evaluations and interpreting fitness assessments to prescribe conditioning exercise
  • Supervising patient exercise and provide fitness education
  • Ensuring the maintenance of accurate health records
  • Demonstrating a supportive approach when followingup with patients that helps them increase their confidence and accountability
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of strategies for improving the quality and provision of care for the practice population.
  • Staying abreast of community resources and evidencebased best practices

With a mission to support family physicians in improving primary care through relationships, collaboration and innovation, Primary Care Networks (PCN) are groups of family doctors who work with other health professionals to coordinate the comprehensive delivery of primary care services for their patients.

Our team of health professionals include Nurses, Dieticians, Pharmacists, Behavioural Health Consultants, Social Workers and Exercise Specialists who collaborate to provide comprehensive primary care services for the community.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology or equivalent
  • Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology Certified Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) or American College of Sport Medicine Clinical Exercise Specialist (ACSM CES) Certification


  • Current CPR

  • Healthcare Provider
  • GLAD training is an assets
  • Valid driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle

Previous Experience:


  • At least two years of relevant clinical experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including word, excel and outlook)
  • Knowledge of and experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is an asset
