If you answered yes, our Pinawa, Manitoba location is looking for a
Manager - Communications & Engagement tooversee the team implementing internal and public communications, and Indigenous and public engagement for the Whiteshell Laboratories site and related projects.

The Manager ensures that the team works closely with other Project Communications staff, and works with Corporate Communications staff, to ascertain alignment of efforts, approaches and messaging across all projects and corporate missions.

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e.

Notifying management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.


What will you be doing?

  • Determine internal communication priorities, in consultation with Whiteshell (WL) management, and develop and implement communication strategies to meet deliverable dates; provide direction to WL communications staff on the implementation of tactics to support internal communications.
  • Brief WL, Project Communications and Corporate Affairs management teams on potential or realized risks related to internal communications in a timely manner, presenting suggested mitigations or resolutions.
  • Review and adjust internal communications strategies and tactics annually, to ensure they continue to meet the needs of WL management and staff as closure activities and workforce adjustments advance.
  • Work closely with project, regulatory, environmental and other management to determine public communications and Indigenous engagement priorities that support project delivery and regulatory licensing timelines; develop and implement communication strategies to meet deliverable dates and provide direction to direct reports on the implementation of tactics to these strategies.
  • Brief WL, Project Communications and Corporate Affairs management teams on potential or realized risks related to communications and/or engagement in a timely manner, presenting suggested mitigations or resolutions.
  • Develop and manage the execution of media relations strategies; act as primary media spokesperson when required; prepare and coach management designated as media spokespeople.
  • Manage timely reporting of communications and engagement data tracked to meet internal, regulatory and client requirements; manage budgets for resources such as consultants.
  • Assign work to staff, ensuring that priorities and deadlines are understood and met, and that completed work meets expectations; approve leave requests, time cards and expenses for staff.
  • Perform all Human Resource responsibilities for direct reports, including recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and mentoring, and evaluating and managing performance.
  • Mentor and coach staff to ensure optimum performance as well as job satisfaction.
  • Act as managerial delegate for other Project Communications managers in their absence.
  • Provide managerial/staff resourcing to other Project Communications portfolios when additional support is required to meet licensing and other critical timelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

What we are looking for-

  • University degree in a relevant field such as communications, public relations, Indigenous studies or journalism.
  • Seven (7) to 10 years of progressive work experience in communicating with internal, public and Indigenous stakeholders, including developing and successfully implementing communications and engagement plans and strategies, of which three (3) to five (5) years are managerial experience and include responsibility for resolving internal and external stakeholder concerns and managing issues.
  • Experience working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary management team.
  • Internal/external communication, interpersonal, and Indigenous and public engagement skills.
  • Managerial, leadership and organizational abilities, particularly during times of significant organizational change.
  • Ability to work confidently with and provide strategic advice to corporate and client management, and to ensure that management expectations are understood by direct reports.
  • Ability to offer sound media relations advice to leadership and to act as a media spokesperson as required.
  • Superior writing and editing skills, honed in a scientific and/or technical and/or environmental milieu.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Of
