With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

Create and lead a variety of educational programs including school and group programs, day camps, birthday parties
Deliver dropin programs for the general public which consist of roving, point interpretation, large group presentations and theatrical presentations
Discuss program requirements with parents, teachers and group leaders prior to programs
Implement overnight programs as well as virtual outreach programs to schools and festivals
Supervise and direct the work of volunteers during programming
Assist in the maintenance of artifacts, exhibits and program supplies as well as the care and handling of small animals involved with the programs
Support a safe experience for all visitors
Set up and take down of program activities
Independently complete administrative tasks
Conduct other related duties as required

Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalency
Demonstrated knowledge of local and exotic wildlife
Some relevant experience working with the general public, tour groups, children and other program users
Some experience delivering educational content such as leading activities or games with the general public, tour groups, or children
Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR Level C certification are required prior to employment
Highly developed verbal communication and customer service skills
Highly developed problem solving skills and ability to work as part of a team
Ability to perform the duties of this position, including long periods of standing in one place and moving around the facility in various weather and environmental conditions
Demonstrated ability to complete tasks in a respectful, inclusive and serviceminded way
Hire is dependent on Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector satisfactory to the City of Edmonton. Costs associated with a security clearance are the responsibility of the applicant
Training for this position will occur in early October 2023. You must be available to attend the training in full

Applicants may be tested

Assets:

Current registration in or completed postsecondary diploma or degree in Education, Biological or Environmental Sciences, Drama, Recreation and Leisure Studies or a related field
Experience working in another zoo or interpretive facility
Experience/knowledge of safe animal handling procedures
Ability to converse in a second language
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence or provincial equivalent and ability to obtain a City Driver's Permit

The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time.

Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
