Description

CMP Group Ltd., a leading provider of Marine Products, Construction, and Industrial solutions is seeking a Tool and Die Maker (Mechanist) to join Delta, British Columbia location/team on a full-time permanent basis.

Reporting to the General Manager, the Tool and Die Maker would be working closely with the Plant Manager, Production Supervisor, and the design team to provide support with various tasks within the Tool and Die department; to build, maintain, an repair all Tool and Die fixtures for CMP Delta - Die-Cast and CNC divisions.

They would be responsible for setting up and operating manual and CNC lathes and milling machines.

The Tool and Die Maker would be responsible for analyzing processes and making suggestions to improve workflow such as tooling recommendations, fixture design, setup booklets, and training to other helper/operators within the department(s).

They would also be involved in cost analysis, providing quotes for new potential jobs coming to CMPD.

This individual would follow safe working practices and procedures, setup and operate mills and lathes, maintain quality requirements on production runs, services equipment, reads and interprets drawings, implements lean principles, basic understanding of casting defects, and works well with all departments within the organization.

Responsibilities:


  • Designing tools.
  • Provides cost analysis as required
  • Supports others within the department
  • Resolves quality issues, production and mechanical problems
  • Performs unsupervised repair and maintenance to all existing tooling.
  • Maintains Quality documents and records as required.
  • Issues Purchase Requisitions for materials as required for current jobs.
  • Assists with resolving basic quality issues, production and mechanical problems.
  • Monitors tool spare parts inventory levels for Tool and Die and CNC department
  • Follows all the safety policies of the company, safe working procedures, emergency procedures and accident and safety reporting procedures.
  • Tool (die cast tools & trim tools) assembly/disassembly
  • Performs minor unsupervised repairs on existing tools e.g. core pins, ejector pins and date pins etc.
  • Performs unsupervised repair and maintenance to existing tooling.
  • Set up and operate manual milling & lathe.
  • As a leader, would be responsible for assisting other departments with production as needed
  • Fixture design to drawing specifications and drawings
  • Builds product to desired work order quantities and has all requirements in work cell such as gauging, drawings, control plans, and visual aids
  • Ensures quality by following documents and procedures laid out by CMP
  • Maintains specifications by observing machining operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; identifying issues within processes; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
  • Understanding of casting defects and reports non conformances to Supervisor.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Other duties as assigned

Safety:

  • Must follow all safety protocol implemented within the organization
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety work procedures and regulations.
  • Enforces safety practices as per CMP and Work safe standards
  • Ensures contractors and visitors to production area are following CMP and Work safe standards
  • Provides timely accident investigations or corrective actions to Supervisors within CMPD
  • Implements changes required as per the Safety Committee recommendations.

Continuous improvement:

  • Follows continuous improvement projects in Die Cast, CNC & ASSEMBLY
  • Maintains best practices in all work areas, complete with process documentation.
  • Participates in Lean projects within the organization
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications and asks questions whenever unsure.

Training:

  • Schedules and participates in training as requested ie. NADCA Training and Conferences (Tooling)
  • Supervisory Training
