    We are seeking for a Hoarding Coach

    In the City of Toronto

    Availability needed: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. No weekends.

    Part-time, 2-3 Days per week

    What will be your role?

    The Hoarding Coach is responsible for supporting clients who have hoarding behaviors accompanied by other challenges. These individuals have difficulties with excessive clutter and excessive acquiring behaviours that may present health and environmental risks, which can lead to a host of other issues including personal distress to themselves and their family. Hoarding can present serious health concerns to the individual and the larger community and can lead to homelessness. Generally, individuals with hoarding behaviours have other underlying issues that may trigger other behavioural challenges.

    In your role as a Hoarding Coach you will have an opportunity to positively impact the lives of individuals in helping with Housing Stabilization. Responsible for providing emotional support assisting individuals with setting goals and encouraging changes in relationship with their items helping shift perspective and rapport with their belongings through a client focused and harm reduction approach. The Hoarding Coach is responsible for monitoring and reporting any changes that may affect client's safety immediately to Supervisor. Provide ongoing feedback and or notes after each session to Supervisor including logs of activities and other details as required.

    Ideally, you are passionate about assisting those with mental health and safety challenges in the community. All activities are conducted within the client's care/service plan and policies, procedures, and standards of confidentiality of VHA Home HealthCare. You may be required to wear PPE's and work in home environments that are on a scale of 6+ on the CIR (Clutter Image Rating) scale as well as squalor like and infested home environments.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Diploma in, or working toward: Social Service Worker, Addictions and Mental Health Worker, or Community Service Worker, or a related discipline.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrating tact and diplomacy with at risk clients
    • Demonstrates interest in mental health including populations with compulsive hoarding
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, a solution-focused approach and crisis intervention techniques
    • Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and develop strategies for positive outcomes
    • Experience working with clients with mental health challenges
    • Experience in community health is an asset
    • Able to work from a client centered and harm reduction approach
    • Computer skills in word processing and data entry
    • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety is an asset
    • Ability to travel from client to client in the community is required
    • Demonstrates efforts to continuously develop and upgrade skills
    • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is considered an asset
