As a Supervisor, Facility & Mechanical Services, you will report to the Manager, Facilities Management and be responsible for direct supervision of assigned unionized employees.

You will supervise the provision of specialized and technical services to maintain, support and facility assets of the Seniors Services and Long-Term Care home and community locations.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Implements detailed plans and recommends Facilities policies/procedures regarding program specific requirements.
  • Supervises, motivates and trains assigned staff, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards of health & safety, work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and encourages innovation in others.
  • Supervises the daytoday operation of all assigned staff including the scheduling, assigning and reviewing of work. Authorizes and coordinates vacation and overtime requests. Monitors and evaluates staff performance, approves salary increments.
  • Supervises the delivery and contracting of facility and mechanical services to provide construction, installations, maintenance, and repairs to the Long-Term Care Home infrastructure and to ensure that work meets legislative requirements.
  • Set up and administer a comprehensive facilities/building preventative maintenance/conservation program for all equipment and amenities under his/her jurisdiction in consultation with the Manager, Facilities Management.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, life safety systems, etc. and ensure that the building envelope and grounds of the building are maintained to standards.
  • Manages safe and healthy environment by ensuring proper cleaning and lifting techniques, safe removal of biohazards.
  • Conducts building inspections, develops work plans and implements cost effective solutions that are with good facilities management practices.
  • Ensures that the infrastructure and physical assets of the facilities are conserved and maintained in a good state of repair and usefulness by identifying needs and managing programs in consultation with the Manager, Facilities Management.
  • Responds to building/mechanical emergency and/or priority situations by anticipating problems, making decisions, marshalling, and deploying appropriate financial and human resources.
  • Supervises the activities of staff and directs contractors involved in the repair/maintenance and installation of walkways and parking lot lighting; electrical services public address systems and sound systems; all other electrical services and sound systems; mechanical systems; security systems; all other LTC specific systems; elevating devices; and provide locates for buried electrical services as required.
  • Reviews plans for minor repair or state of good repair projects to determine materials, equipment, and personnel requirements. Provides recommendations /changes to design plans in resolving possible installation and maintenance problems to the Manager, Facilities Management.
  • Supervises the activities of staff and directs contractors involved in minor building renovations; glass replacement, repairs/maintenance of all amenities painting, sign installations, fencing and welding services.
  • Maintains computerized records concerning preventative maintenance programs, work performance, building mechanics and structure, mechanical equipment inventory, staff evaluation and discipline, timesheets and staff reports.
  • Ensures compliance with the Collective Agreements covering unionized City Workers in C.U.P.E Locals 416 and 79; and Provincial Collective Agreements covering certified Trades staff in Technical Services (Carpenters Local 27, Electricians Local 353, Plumbers, Local 46, Painters and Graphic and Sign Writer, Local 557)
