Unit/Project Description:
The Student Wellness Centre provides a range of services to support student health:
- Counselling
- individual counselling, workshops, group psychotherapy
- Medical Care medical and naturopathic services
- Health Promotion programs, education, and training
Job Summary:
Under the direction and support of the Manager of Nursing/Education, the Wellness Educator is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of wellness education and promotion programs for McMaster students, and communicating the services of the Student Wellness Centre to the student population.
Purpose and Key Functions:
- In collaboration with the Manager, identify the critical health and wellness issues of students and direct Wellness Education student team to develop, implement and evaluate wellness education programs.
- Adapt and edit a variety of Student Wellness Centre publications and resource education materials.
- Motivate and organize students to participate in wellness education and outreach programming.
- Coordinate a team of students, which includes selecting applicants each academic year, overseeing work, providing ongoing training, support, evaluation and student leadership development
- Create effective communication and marketing for the Student Wellness Centre to target students in need of services.
- Facilitate collaboration between students and other campus and community service providers for joint programs and presentations for wellness education.
- Develop and deliver training sessions for a variety of student audiences including MSU peer support programs.
- Develop and deliver programs, events and initiatives on various health topics to students.
- Act as a preceptor for students on academic placement.
- Meet with students and provide assistance in a variety of areas such as the development of their wellness education projects.
- Deal sensitively, responsibly and calmly with students who present with medical, social and psychological issues, and refer to appropriate care, information and services across the University.
- Provide administrative support including, but not limited to booking rooms, program registrations, and mailings.
- Update and administer wellness education program surveys and evaluations.
- Establish relationships and work collaboratively with students, staff, campus partners, and community partners.
- Represent the Student Wellness Centre by participating on campus committees representing various issues associated with the health and wellness of the student body with direction and support from the Manager.
- Gather, compile and update information required to develop relevant and quality resource information in print and digital materials such as posters, brochures, videos, and for the website and social networks.
- Update and maintain database information for program participation for the purpose of program review and reporting.
- Participate in Student Wellness Centre and Wellness Education events.
- Remain current with health and wellness literature to ensure relevant and timely programming and share literature with the Student Wellness Volunteers and the Student Wellness Centre staff.
Supervision:
- Ongoing responsibility for supervising 10 or more casual employees.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Health Science, Nursing, or related field.
- Requires 3 years of relevant experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
Assets:
- Web & Design: proficient in using Adobe Creative Suite 6 and Word Press.
- Good understanding of Student Affairs, and ways to engage students across campus
- Knowledgeable regarding Wellness resources for postsecondary students and resources in the Hamilton Community
- Strong active listening and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional presentation skills for large and small groups
- Knowledge of health promotion practices related to content areas such as sexual health, substance use, suicide and mental health (could be variable based on role?)

Additional Information:
Must be available to work evenings and weekends especially during peak training and tabling months.
