    Description

    Ballard has an immediate opportunity for an Intermediate Buyer to join its Purchasing team and assist in the Supply Chain related activities. The successful candidate will work with component purchases, supplier relations, process improvement projects and working closely with cross functional teams to gain knowledge not only in Supply Chain field but also to learn what is fuel cells all about.

    The ideal candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, is proactive, has a sense of urgency and is determined and dedicated to data accuracy. Goals will be shared annually, and performance will be measured by OTD reports and KPIs. The successful candidate will work closely with Planning, Quality and Product Development Teams. This position will be located at our Burnaby facility.

    Responsibilities


    •Managing supplier on time delivery, balance inventory levels according to the supply risk, monitor suppliers' performance and support cost reductions.


    •Assisting in developing continuous improvement of purchasing policies and procedures, as well as the maintenance of the vendor and item master databases.


    •Managing purchasing activities for special projects and executing indirect purchase requisitions as required.


    •Maintaining supplier and component ordering parameters in Oracle ERP.


    •Working in a team environment to optimize supplier quality, on-time delivery, lead time, and cost.


    •Taking initiative and negotiating material pricing to levels that meet or exceed cost targets.


    •Proactively communicating/escalating potential issues or interruptions in material supply.


    •Working with Accounts Payable, Logistics, Quality teams and Suppliers to resolve issues and discrepancies.


    •Ensuring required developmental material arrived on time and meeting component qualification timelines for program milestones.


    •Maintaining focus on supplier capacities and facilitate a collaborative working relationship between T&PD Engineers and Suppliers.


    •Understanding the product lifecycles and provide early input regarding risk and cost of supply.


    •Working together with the Strategic Sourcing team, qualifying new suppliers, technologies, and manufacturers to assist in product, delivery improvements and cost/profits enhancement.

    Requirements


    •A post-secondary degree complimented with the completion of an intermediate level of SCMP/CPIM program.


    •Minimum of 5 years procurement experience supporting manufacturing with custom parts. Automotive experience is a plus


    •In-depth experience with an MRP/ERP system.


    •Proven history of Supply Chain successes; negotiations, shortage, and risk mitigation.


    •Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.


    •Ability to think creatively and identify innovative solutions to difficult issues.


    •Ability to build commitment to ideas, plans, or courses of action.


    •Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills – timely, accurate and succinct delivery of information.


    •Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint presentations.

    The typical hiring range for this position is CAD$60,000 - CAD$75,000 per annum. In determining total compensation, Ballard considers many factors, including the successful Candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, experience, position location, and internal equity.
