Summary


The Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker under the direction of Mechanical Director, will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and repairs associated with sheet metal/HVAC and equipment of TechCanada.

He or she will work using safe work practices, always being aware of personal and client safety.

The Apprentice Sheet Metal Worker will be required to demonstrate written and verbal communication through the creation of work documents, and through providing explanations and training to others on the safe use of related equipment.

Job Duties:


  • Reads, interprets, and executes drawings, schematics, blueprints, and follow code specifications to see layout of the ducting system.
  • Convert blueprints into shop drawings to be followed in the construction or assembly of sheet metal products
  • Install and maintain and test fire dampers
  • Maneuver duct work into position for assembly
  • Install hangers for support of duct
  • Fasten seams or joints together with bolts of metal drive clips
  • Install and maintain fire dampers
  • Install grilles and dampers according to drawings

Requirements:


  • Registered as an apprentice through the Alberta/BC Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
  • Must be able to read diagrams, and blueprints
  • Must possess communication skills, selfsupervision, and respect for safety needs
  • Must possess team spirit, and be able to work closely with maintenance, production, and engineering, and out of doors services
  • Must be ready to do overtime work if the need arises
  • Must have a versatile work schedule shift work
  • Must be able to climb ladders
  • Must have valid category five drivers' license
  • Must be flexible to work outoftown when required
  • Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allows one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.

Work Conditions:


  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steeltoed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Hazards associated with the trade.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.

Job Types:
Full-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship


Salary:
$18.50-$29.75 per hour

  • Industrial Sheet Metal/

HVAC:
1 year (preferred)


Licence/Certification:

  • Class 5 Drivers Licence (preferred)

Willingness to travel:

  • 50% (preferred)
