- Leads the implementation and integration of complex AV systems, video conference and digital signage.
- Consults with Project Managers and the design team to provide input into the design, and develop recommendations and criteria for system requirements.
- Consults and coordinates with General Contractors and Construction Managers on larger projects, to efficiently plan AV installation activities into the overall project schedule
- Addresses and provides resolution to issues related to academic requests and in the set up or operation of AV technology.
- Consults with internal and external clients, vendors and manufacturers on infrastructure development projects in planning and in minimizing project risks.
- Oversee integration of AV with other building systems, consult with and coordinate with other trades such as electrical and network data specialists to ensure appropriate infrastructure is in place to support integration.
- Provides advice to the UBC IT AV Project Managers with regards to ongoing AV project progress, and makes recommendations on possible solutions to problems and conflicts
- Provides advice to the UBC IT AV Project Managers with regards to labour resource allocations and manpower budgets for AV system installations
- Manages relationships with clients to ensure that projects are meeting requirements from start to completion.
- Delivers training and orientation to clients and conduct testing and commissioning of systems and documentation upon project completion.
- Manages and provides technical support in areas of AV systems, video conference and digital signage.

- Provides technical support and troubleshooting in the use of AV products and services and may mentor or assist other AV technicians.
- Promotes and encourages the use of technology to support teaching and learning goals.
- Writes and maintains documentation in accordance with prescribed standards.
- Installs and maintains software on servers, networks and related AV software and hardware
- Serves on project teams as a subject matter expert for AV products and services.
- Ensures AV services provided by vendors meet design specifications for new facilities.

Job Description Summary
The Audio Visual Specialist consults with users and provides technical advice and support on the use and integration of learning technologies for teaching and learning environments including creating, producing and distributing multimedia projects.
This position specializes in the implementation and integration of AV related technologies and systems for teaching and learning environments, meeting rooms, video conference systems and digital signage.
The AV Specialist also supervises an integration crew and is responsible for the successful implementation of AV systems to support UBC s communication requirements.
The position also consults with the AV Project Managers, AV Coordinators, design and electrical consultants, trades people, construction managers, Architects, project stakeholders and various users providing technical expertise in the implementation and integration of AV technology and systems to the UBC campus.
This position requires moving and lifting a wide assortment of equipment and integration tools, and may be required to work outside of regular business hours as necessary to meet implementation timelines and/or room and user schedules.
The AV Specialist reports to the AV Projects Manager, while also working closely with all staff with-in UBC IT Audio Visual, and other departments and units on campus.
The role will receive instruction from (and report back to on a daily basis) the UBC IT AV Project Managers and the Team Lead for AV Projects.

Information Technology plays a key role in enabling the University to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world s leading universities.
Should these projects not be completed successfully, this would compromise the University s ability to achieve its strategic goals and vision.
Inability of systems to support the University s needs could seriously compromise daily business and activities at the University.This position must assume responsibility for project implementation decisions that could cost the University both monetarily and in the form of systemdowntime.
This position must be able to foresee potential problems before they occur and take corrective action.Supervision Received

The position supervises the AV integration crew/s. However, position is responsible for explaining procedures to all the resource people and stakeholders involved. Provides direction and guidance to AV integration crew/s to make sure the projects are completed as assigned.
Monitors and documents the progress of projects as assigned and coordinates activities to ensure that deadlines and quality controls set forth are met.
Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Formal training in audio-visual service (i.e. industry training, seminars, associated credentials, such as Cisco, Biamp and Creston Certification).Minimum of three years experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience supporting Windows OS, Macintosh OS and associated applications. Experience in the implementation and integration of complex Audio Visual systems.
Demonstrated ongoing career development through active and self-motivated professional development in the field of project management
Experience in the role of Lead Integrator managing the implementation of AV systems and processes.
Proven track record of completion of successful projects
Experience in operation budgeting and risk management In depth Knowledge of Audio Visual application development and implementation best practices, rules of thumb , and benchmarks
