Community Specialist (HIA)
Purpose
Community Specialists (CS) report to the Program Supervisor.

They are allies and ambassadors and work front-line and are pivotal to the creation of a safe, caring and community-enriched life for the individuals/families who hire us.

The role is responsible for thoughtful program planning and implementation supports participants to connect with their communities, establishing real relationships and creating meaningful days and lives.

The conscientious CS acts with integrity, is open to growth, lives our purpose, cultivates teamwork, and puts forth an extraordinary effort to empower people with diverse abilities and their families to grow, succeed, and belong.

Key Functions

Provide direct care and purposeful support in an engaging, fun and safe environment
Foster genuine relationships promoting dignity, personal interests and identities
Empower people with diverse abilities to create meaningful days and achieve their goals
Communicate effectively with team members, families, and individuals we support
Build a vision of inclusion, one person at a time
Facilitate day trips into the community with participants to create meaningful days
Model socially appropriate behaviors and assist/ encourage participants to make and maintain appropriate community connections
Support participants in all aspects of personal hygiene and personal care as required
Maintain timely, accurate and professional documents in accordance with AdaptAbilities policies and procedures
Understand and comply with all emergency processes and risk management

Qualifications:

1 years of experience in related field or life experience (supporting a family member)
Alignment with AdaptAbilities core purpose and core values
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to remain calm in emotionally challenging situations and effectively use empathy.
Basic coaching and mentoring skills
Clear Police Information Check and Intervention Record Check
Standard First Aid Certification CPR Level C and AED is required
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Abuse Prevention and Response Protocol are an asset
Degree or diploma in Disability Services, Social Work or Human Services (or equivalent) is considered an asset

Working Conditions
This is a full-time seasonal position from June 26, 2023 to August 25, 2023. Shifts are scheduled between 7:30 am - 6:00 pm from Monday to Friday. Casual opportunities are available.

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant from the Government of Canada, which requires that the employee must be between 15 and 30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada.

International students are not eligible.
Compensation

Hourly Rate:
$17.77 to $22.24 (Based on experience and education)
