Overview:
The Region of Durham is currently seeking a skilled and passionate Cook to join our team at Lakeview Manor long term care home in Beaverton.
As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals in accordance with food safety guidelines and ensuring high-quality dishes are served to our residents.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare safe, nutritious, and palatable food for residents and outreach clients as per menu and special catering requests
- Follow established menus, recipes and production sheets to organize, plan and coordinate food requirements for daily meals
- Maintain proper portion control of all panned food items
- Document and maintain an adequate freezer inventory to ensure proper rotation of food and to assist with the ordering of food and supplies
- Document the temperatures of fridges and freezers
- Clean and sanitize all works areas, including equipment and utensils to ensure a safe work environment for staff and residents
Qualifications:
- Completion of an approved Culinary Management Diploma or a Journeyman's Cooks Certification
- A valid Food Training Certificate issued within the past 5 years
- Several years previous quantity cooking experience, preferably in a long term care setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of and compliance with relevant legislation, standard and best practices in areas of food preparation, safe food handling, workplace safety and long term care
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated customer service and problem solving abilities
- Excellent organization and time management skills, with the ability to multitask
- The ability to work with mínimal supervision, as well as in a team environment
- Physical ability to perform the essential duties of the position
