Reporting to the Environmental, Health & Safety Director, the EHS Specialist will lead & facilitate the integration of EHS processes and standard operating procedures/policies and assists in administering programs and training in compliance with the provincial regulations.

Counsel and support operations management and employees to achieve a safe and healthy working environment and sponsor supervisory/employee-based activities that will reinforce an efficient/productive EHS work culture.

Routinely benchmark best practices to achieve top-standard EHS performance results.

This is a hands-on role with significant time spent in all parts of the operation, observing, monitoring, training, and coaching employees toward EHS goals and initiatives.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Drive the implementation of Carmichael Engineering EHS Programs and continuous improvement in EHS performance in order to achieve EHS excellence. This will include but not limited to all environmental aspects management, safety risk management, contractor safety, culture, etc.
  • Drive improvement and track goal(s) achievement through collection, analysis, and communication of EHS and KPI data (including but not limited to programs evaluation, workplace audits, Corrective action closures, training completion, injuries and illnesses, and other significant events).
  • Provide technical advice, develop plans, and execute environmental, health, or safety (EHS) challenges and issues.
  • Support the operations team to focus on EHS program development, implementation, and improvement.
  • Sustain excellence in EHS and safety culture.
  • Maintain indepth knowledge of applicable business and regulatory requirements.
  • Support necessary programs to assure compliance with Industrial and Construction Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Provide support and guide supervisors and employee Safety Teams, ensuring compliance with regulatory and EHS program requirements.
  • Assist in modifications of EHS programs and procedures to ensure worldclass EHS performance.
  • Conduct EHS training courses for assigned program areas.
  • Lead Injury & Illness tracking
  • Support project management in assigned areas to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and implement appropriate corrective action / continuous improvement plans.
  • Support assigned areas by conducting injury/accident/incident investigations and followup on safety concerns.
  • Drive timely and effective closure of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Track progress against EHS metrics and goals
  • Drive EHS compliance to ensure completion and accurate recording of EHS metrics, including training, inspections, etc.
  • Conduct EHS audits and Site inspections as required by the EHS program

Required Qualifications:


  • 810 years of EHS Experience with Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university (Highly preferred)
  • EHS experience in Construction or HVAC Service industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Provincial Industrial and Construction Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites.
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to travel for work (2550%)

  • Demonstrated initiative in proactively identifying future potential safety risks and suggesting or implementing appropriate countermeasures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and other essential IT systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, in both written and verbal form, to a wide variety of stakeholders, including but not limited to supervision, engineering, and technical associates.
  • Possesses the ability to represent Carmichael professionally to outside agencies, customers, and vendors.
