Peer Lead, Managed Alcohol Program (Peer)

Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre (Parkdale Queen West CHC) is a dynamic, community

including primary health care, dental care, harm reduction, health promotion, counselling, and community
development programming, we are also committed to serving people who face barriers to health care, and we

General Responsibilities:
The Managed Alcohol Program at Parkdale Queen West Community Health
Centre is in search of a compassionate and motivated person who is committed to offering respectful harm
reduction programming for alcohol from an anti-racist and social justice perspective. The Managed Alcohol
Program Peer Lead will bring their expertise and lived experience to support both the program and agency to
better meet the needs of people who are enrolled in the Managed Alcohol Program at PQWCHC. The Peer
Leader will have the support of PQWCHC staff and will receive ongoing training to build individual, team,
agency, and community strength. PQWCHC seeks representation from the Indigenous community, individuals
attached to communities who use drugs, people of African and Caribbean communities and women at risk.


Reporting Manager:
Manager of Urban Health - Harm Reduction Services**
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist in administration of pre
  • prescribed alcohol to up to 5 members enrolled in MAP
  • Work with the Harm Reduction Outreach Coordinator to assist in the brewing of alcohol on site
  • Lead weekly dropin style programming group for MAP members
  • With the Harm Reduction Coordinator provide training to community and partner agencies on alcohol
use and the Managed Alcohol Program

  • Participate in weekly outreach shift (on foot or bicycle) with the Harm Reduction Outreach team to
provide expertise on Alcohol harm reduction practices and information, and distributing

the harm reduction supplies and resources (safer injection supplies, safer crack use kits, safer sex

supplies, safer crystal meth kits, information, pamphlets).

  • Offer support, education, and training around safer drug and alcohol using practices, safer sex,
infection prevention, and health promotion to community members who use substance and do sex

work

  • Training community members in overdose prevention and response including training in using
Naloxone

  • Lead and support outreach activities at the partner locations
  • Cocreate and give workshops as requested by the community stakeholders
  • Safe disposal / handling of used drug equipment
  • Work as part of a team by attending the team meetings, trainings, and regular supervision meetings
  • Maintain boundaries with the community members while working
  • Meet commitments i.e., adhering to work schedule, program, and client needs
  • Collecting statistics, data entry, and writing short reports

Qualifications:


  • Personal experience and/or an awareness of alcohol use is an asset
  • Harm reductionrelated and peer support volunteer or paid experience, education, or training is an asset
  • Ability to work 4 hours shifts including evenings and weekends
  • Familiarity with Queen & Bathurst and Parkdale area community members and drugusing networks
  • Drug user positive and sexpositive attitude with antiracist, harm reduction outlook

The Harm Reduction team at Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre is committed to representing

Compensation:
$18 per hour + 4% vacation pay. Up to 12 hours a week.
