Description

Cannapiece Corp. is seeking a Product Development Specialist. The position will function as a vital link between Product Development objectives and Manufacturing departments at Cannapiece's Pickering Location. The role requires a hands-on, problem-solving approach to develop, optimize, and improve our product and production process lines.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports Product Development related projects driven by the goals and objectives led by the Director of Product Development and Innovation
  • Scope of role includes both Extraction and Production manufacturing operations at Cannapiece's Pickering Location
  • Supports the development and optimization of new and existing products and processes by coordinating across various teams (i.e. extraction, preroll, packaging, inventory) to understand the problems that are facing the team and implementing solutions that have been agreed to by Director
  • Assist in gathering customer/client requirements and translating them into production plans
  • Improvement of existing and design of new Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, Recipes, Batch Methods, and Master Batch Records
  • Collaborate with Quality Team to improve the objective and marketfocused quality of cannabis derivative products
  • Identify areas for technical and quality improvement, and developing proposals to move forward with project plans to address those areas
  • Mining through Production data as needed for various analyses as required or instructed by Director
  • Assist with tech transfers from industry partners
  • Production process development
  • Documentation of all research and development projects, as well as creation of documentation systems for laboratorybased project outcomes
  • Investigate new technologies and assist with development of business cases to support them if merited
  • Work with Director of Product Development and Innovation to hire, train and lead team as required by Director
  • Learn and train on all existing and new production and manufacturing/production operations and processes at Cannapiece (SOPs)
  • Actively participate in production operations as required by Director
  • Management of inprocess product sampling and associated test data, and participate in analysis with QA and Director
  • Continuous assessment of existing equipment/assets' performance, and development of upgrade plans with Director and Equipment and Maintenance Supervisor
  • Training staff on new processes/procedures
  • Testing of new processes and products (production trials, and experiments, proof of concepts, pilot runs, etc.)
  • Developing protocols with QA for new product development
  • Research into new technologies and production techniques, and present findings to Director and Team
  • Research into emerging technologies, and present findings to Director and Team
  • Field Research (may include site visits at partner/client LP's, equipment vendors, consumables suppliers, service providers like testing labs, or biomass suppliers) as required and authorized.
  • Safely Handles and works with laboratory chemicals and equipment/apparatus
  • Market research and procurement research as instructed by Director

EDUCATION

  • A Bachelor's degree in Science or Arts, preferably in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food, Pharma, or a related field.
  • Advanced training or certification in Cannabis Extraction and Production will be an advantage.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to translate development findings into executable production plans.
  • Strong ability to coordinate and collaborate with multiple teams and stakeholders
  • High proficiency in data analysis and the use of data analysis tools.
  • Excellent technical writing skills for creating and updating SOPs, Work Instructions, Recipes, Batch Methods, and Master Batch Records.
  • Good presentation and communication skills to present research findings and proposals to various audiences.
  • Ability to handle laboratory chemicals safely and effectively
  • Problemsolving skills with a strong focus on quality improvement and optimization.
  • Ability to conduct effective market and procurement research.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in a similar role within the cannabis industry is preferred
  • Handson experience in extraction and production manufacturing operations is required.
  • Knowledge of the cannabis derivative product market.
  • Understanding of regulatory compliance in the cannabis industry.
  • Experience with tech transfers from industry partners
  • Prior experience in process development and improvement.
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous assessment of equipment/assets' performance and development of upgrade plans.
  • Experience in handling inprocess product sampling and associated test data analysis.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies in the cannabis production field.
