Analyst Research & Policy - Rat Rebate Program

Location: 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga, ON

Hours of work: 35 hours per week


Reporting to the Manager, Health Protection, you will provide research and analysis, project leadership, policy and strategic assistance, program planning and evaluation support to the Health Protection Division and the Medical Officer of Health on environmental health issues.


What you will do in this role:

  • Research the full scope of municipal rat control programs including a residential rebate program and the analysis and development of options for the program going forward.
  • Evaluation and critical appraisal of relevant studies and evaluation reports to inform evidencebased practice the management of rat populations.
  • Review, and analyze policy and program information from other jurisdictions and recommend risk applicable options for consideration after consulting with stakeholders from the community, government, and nongovernmental agencies
  • Write internal policies and procedures required for the implementation of the rat rebate program.
  • Develop policy positions, monitor and evaluate the local implications of provincial and federal health policy decisions
  • Liaise with colleagues from other divisions within the Region of Peel, members of the community, representatives of industry and environmental groups, government officials and staff, in particular Animal Control, from area municipal departments

What the role requires:


  • Master's degree in public health, toxicology, planning or other relevant public health discipline
  • A minimum of three years related experience
  • Broad knowledge of environmental public health issues, environmental risk assessment and management, and environmental and health impact assessments
  • Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office

Skills/Abilities:


  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize, evaluate and integrate health, and environment information from multiple sources and provide recommendations related to preventing/mitigating health impacts, policy formulation and strategic planning/prioritization
  • Strong knowledge in qualitative and quantitative research methods and analytical skills including critical appraisal and appropriate use of evidence
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills
  • Superior organizational skills coupled with the ability to work effectively across organizational boundaries
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy
  • Strong presentation skills
In this role you will have the ability to work mostly remote. You will be required to occasionally attend on-site meetings based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario worksite. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
