Summary:

To identify, plan, develop, implement, facilitate and report on volunteer/special events/community and internal/external engagement opportunities for the police service.

To assist with the development and coordination of a service-wide volunteer program responsible for coordinating member and external participation in community and volunteer events.

The position will engage both internally and externally based on diverse offerings/community engagement opportunities in Waterloo Region, under the direction of the Director of Corporate Affairs.


You Will:


  • Establish and administer an intake procedure for managing event requests.
  • Source and recommend community events for engagement opportunities.
  • Monitor service engagement and assist in resource coordination.
  • Develop and oversee internal and external volunteer programs.
  • Coordinate public relations events and marketing plans.
  • Build internal and external relationships for event success.
  • Organize event logistics and manage onsite support.
  • Ensure events prioritize inclusivity and diversity.
  • Conduct postevent evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Prepare briefs and speaking notes for senior leadership.
  • Host special events and manage event purchases within budget.
  • Assist in servicewide events and fundraising efforts.
  • Maintain databases and use police vehicles for event attendance.
  • Provide support within the Corporate Affairs unit as needed.

You Have:


  • A twoyear community college diploma in event planning, business, tourism, or related field.
  • Two years of previous events planning or volunteer organizing experience.
  • Experience working with community/volunteer/charity/nonprofit organizations.
  • A valid Class "G" Driver's License with no more than six (6) demerit points required to travel within and outside the Region.

  • Able to coordinate volunteers and committees.
  • A strong communicator with interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Able to establish and maintain relationships with diverse community members.
  • Skilled in public speaking and presentation skills, including organizing meetings.
  • Highly organizational and task oriented
  • Detailoriented with the ability to meet deadlines in a fastpaced environment.
  • Proficient in written communication skills.
  • A critical thinker who can screen events/organizations for EDI alignment.
  • Knowledgeable in office procedures and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Familiar with WRPS organizational structure and procedures.
  • Able to meet police security clearance and maintain confidentiality.
  • An effective team player with values aligned with the organization.
  • Willing to undergo testing for the position.
