Duties

The CanmetMINING Sudbury laboratory is seeking an Electrical Technologist to work within a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will play a key role in our research projects, spanning both in the field and laboratory work, with a primary focus on assessing performance of mining Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs). The responsibilities of the successful candidate include, but are not limited to, planning and executing field and laboratory activities; operating, maintaining and setting up data loggers, sensors and other specialized equipment including a battery analyzer; developing / validating battery and BEV testing procedures; conducting basic data analysis; troubleshooting and solving performance issues with test methods and equipment; and actively contributing to the preparation of technical reports and scientific manuscripts.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education
Successful completion of an acceptable post-secondary training program in electrical field or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience related to the duties of the position.

Experience
Experience working with electrical equipment between 12V and V.
Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting electrical or electronic equipment.
Experience working with data loggers and sensors.

Knowledge
Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and safety requirements
Knowledge of electrical instruments (i.e. voltmeter, ammeter, multimeter, current clamp, other)
Knowledge of data processing and analysis

Abilities/Competencies
Ability to manage time effectively
Ability to communicate effectively orally
Ability to communicate effectively in writing
Ability to interpret electrical diagrams

-Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in an electrical field or some other speciality relevant to the position.

-Experience with computer programming languages (preferably Python but other languages are also acceptable)
-Experience with testing Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) or energy storage systems
