    Description

    The Art Team Lead functions as an internal project manager and subject matter expert, working closely with the Art Director to review tasks, support decisions concerning timelines and prioritization, and disseminate them within the team and supporting third parties.

    The owner of this role ensures that activities undertaken by the team are aligned with project specifications and completed to schedule.

    A working leader, the Art Team Lead will also be called upon to support asset creation, level design and development, optimization efforts and other relevant art-related duties.

    As team management and mentorship is a shared responsibility with the Director, the Lead will have ample opportunity to work and be hands on as an art generalist.

    Work closely with the Art Director to strategize, triage and manage art tasks within proscribed project timelines, providing guidance and coaching to team members where appropriate.

    Provide clear communication and direction to the members of the Komi art team, as well as any outsourced third party support services working with the art team.

    Build, decorate and polish visually exciting environments that support defined gameplay goals.
    Create custom assets, materials, and props; Update project planning documentation (e.g., Collaborate and communicate closely with other functional team leads to ensure assets are effectively integrated and optimized.

    Anticipate, identify, and resolve challenges to project and task completion proactively, raising with the Art Director and relevant stakeholders for support where required.

    Support the Art Director with mentoring team members, offering feedback and technical support.
    Performing and participating in other role relevant duties, projects and ad hoc tasks as required.
    Technical Skills

    A minimum of one (1) year of experience successfully leading or co-leading a team of artists, or an equivalence of informal leadership experience within a game development environment.

    A minimum of five (5) years of game development experience building, lighting, and optimizing levels.
    Highly skilled and experienced at building levels in Unreal Engine (using modular kits as well as custom-made assets). Highly skilled and experienced at creating 3D assets using relevant software tools (e.g., 3DSMax/Maya/Blender, Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance).
    The ability to design levels from scratch is considered an asset.
    A strong balance of technical and artistic skills.
    Proven project management acumen, able to prioritize and triage tasks and adapt to changes.
    A history of consistently meeting deadlines, escalating issues where appropriate and carefully following direction.
